imagine thinking bitcoin will survive the apocalypse lmao, it relies on massive excesses of computing power, you think that's going to exist in even a partial grid-down scenario LMAO?

>> No.22360706

I would say massive amounts of gold and silver is what will get you through the apocalypse. If there's no internet, no electricity that bitcoin is just a worthless collectible that not everyone would accept. Gold and silver at least has a long proven history of being used as money, anyone would accept gold bullions, and if we're going full apocalypse you can probably expect wild west tier shit.

The idea is that its distributed, but like most things it follows the pareto principle where some 20% of miners make up 80% of all transactions, so it has no chance of surviving an apocalypse scenario.

He's actually quoting a sound clip they use on No Agenda all the time - "All hell is gonna break loose and you're gonna need a Bitcoin." It's a joke.
I think Adam's more serious point is that Bitcoin is critical as both sound money and a means of routing around central control mechanisms, and he's right. He gets it. The fiat economy is increasingly owned and operated by the Federal Reserve, which can move the whole market by a single announcement decided upon in secret. Add to that the increasing censorship in the fiat ecosystem, where the credit card processors and Paypal are refusing to do business on ideological grounds, and that makes it more obvious to more people that alternatives are valuable.

There are degrees of collapse whose likelihood is inversely proportional to their severity. A collapse of the dollar as a global reserve currency could end the United States and the world order as we know it, but it doesn't mean everyone goes all Road Warrior overnight. It would mean a chaotic adjustment period while everyone tries to keep things going and preserve their own wealth while a new system takes shape and settles out.
Other countries have suffered collapses in their currency and still had electricity and running water, to the extent they had it before anyway. Hell, Venezuela became a hotbed for crypto mining specifically because of the policies causing its collapse - electricity there is free.

Far more likely is just something like the Great Depression. Poverty driving internal mass migrations and social upheaval, but the lights stay on and the trains still run.

You're not planning at that point, you're just fantasizing. There's a ladder of social complexity that societies can climb up or fall down a couple rungs at a time. If you're in the US, the worst thing that could realistically happen is a Yugoslavia-style breakup into ethnic cleansing, in which case your best bet is to keep up with the news and have an active passport and enough money for a plane ticket before it gets out of hand.

Are you that dumb? Miners confirm transactions. Miners mine the blocks. Without electricity, mining bitcoin is over. It dies. Get it through your heads that bitcoin has flaws and isnt saving the world from the central banks. They already have their bags.

If there is a grid crash, it most likely happen globally. Meaning, there will still be some places in asia, south america, africa, wherever, with electricity and possibly internet access, even local. If the network is fragmented, i think, if i remember correcly, that once the different parts are fused together again later, the miners decide which fork they will consider the main one. In a way, grid crash could disrupt bitcoin, but not really kill it.

1. Without electricity, everyone is doomed.
2. "Without electricity" would require a major extinction event/war. Even a massive war will most likely not nuke all power production on Earth.
3. It doesn't matter if they have their bags. What matters is that central banks CANT FUCKING PRODUCE THAT SHIT. I do hope you're baiting man, I really do..
