None of you know how to actually value a company. You can't read financial statements. For fuck's sake you think TA works and the entire field of decision science churns out dissertations every other day highlighting their absolute dismay at the fact that brainlets ever consider using it. I could have sworn I read that the profit of the average entree in a restaurant is only like 15-30% over the total cost and that in order to stay sustainable you need the traffic since it basically works at a margin.

That was the reason why 80-90% of restaurants fail.

Restaurant profit margins are 2-5%.
Chain restaurants go higher, as they've better purchasing power.
Pizza joints can go up to 20%.

My most cost efficient dish was chicken picata and had a 15% profit margin.

Some of the dishes we just rounded up to the nearest dollar and tacked on one dollar more. The $40 steak cost us $38.80 or something.

Restaurants are about either volume or booze sales.
And they are terrible terrible business investments.

Food margins are shit which is why every restaurant gets a liquor license because mark up on booze is like 905 (not beer, just shit like titos and soda0.
Bar seating / standing being banned cut the restaurant I manage revenus by about 40% which not only means there's less total sales but less of those sales are profits. Restaurants are burning so much cash right now just to stay afloat it's insane.
Never invest in restaurants anon.

You're not exactly wrong for a key reason (pic related).

The reason why any of these restaurants in NYC can be profitable at all is because they negotiated leases decades ago and the renters can't raise the price on any of them.

If you tried to start up any equivalent restaurant today with a modern lease it would be literally impossible.

By knocking these businesses off of their leases and kicking them to the curb these "landlords" stand to make a TON of money. If only there was a way to bankrupt these businesses...

The thing about restaurants is that in addition to be very low profit, it is very hard to find competent managers, and it is very easy to have 1 drunk person leave and hit someone and rape your insurance costs which further drag down your profits.
IMO restaurants are just for people to show off to their friends like 'oh I own a restaurant, lets go there so everyone has to kiss my ass oh yeah and my shitty niece with no experience needs. job so make her a waitress'.
T-1 hour until I'm back at work living the nightmare. At least I make sure no niggers get hired. That's really the only good perk of being a manager.

Whenever he said something to "downplay" the virus it was during a rally which doesn't count for shit.

It was a long time ago I was in the business.
It hasn't changed much in 10 years, though.
And yeah, I wasn't getting laid, but everyone else was fucking eachother.

It's like japan where the job becomes your life. You work horrible hours, so the only people you see are fellow restaurant workers. The movie "waiting" with ryan reynolds is basically accurate.

If you're opening a restaurant, you're basically stuck being the general manager, actively, 60 hours a week 6 days a week, for at least 10 years, before you can step back from it and hire someone to manage it while you just take the profit.

And there's maybe a 5% chance you last 10 years.

All dependent on being able to keep a decent location, too.

Seen plenty of places try to move to a "better" spot, or had their spot fucked up for 6 months because of highway construction, and poof. They're fucked.

Last fine dining I did, the place had been one of the more famous restaurants in the city for 20 years. They moved to a new "hip" location, where they thought they'd have triple the seating and foot traffic.

Died in a year cause the rent outpaced whatever business increase they got.

The restaurant went bankrupt after 4 months in operation. The owner had no prior experience and thought it'd "be easy". They had around 10 events in the time they were in business alongside usual operation.

i've always loved stock trading in whatever form (day/swing/buy&hodl) since i started a couple of years ago (wish i had started sooner in all honesty) because i feel like it just cuts out the middle man and puts you directly in contact with making money. you just buy something you believe through analysis will be worth more at a later point in time, you're directly in contact with value instead of some abstraction of it. there's no bullshit, no overhead, no annoying people to deal with, you just buy and sell, simple. there's also all sorts of tricks with risk management and analysis you can use to put the odds hugely in your favor, i love it. it rewards skill and severely punishes the dumb money.

it's not about being right 100% of the time, it's about risk management and winning more than you lose. but nevermind obviously im wasting my time here, feel free to continue sitting on the sidelines in a panic, im sure that's very profitable.

>you're directly in contact with value instead of some abstraction
not sure how clicking buttons and then buying a stock is more valuable than meeting customers who thank you immensely for providing a valuable service or good. Then they tell other people and they call your for your service or good. but to each their own.

>day trading
i am highly skeptical that day trading can bear positive returns in excess of the index over the long term. For one, it begs the notion, you have a strategy, method of analysis and can pick the winners and avoid the losers over a 30-35 year time period in excess of the market as a whole.
