Had a good laugh in a thread last night where boomer-tier scrimpers and savers said you should never aim to cash 100% out at anything higher than one million. May as well just put all your money into an IRA and 401k and call it a day at that point. This. Even my mom laughed and thought it was “cute” when I told her I could cash out $1MM. She said anything less than $10MM isn’t worth the bother, and she doesn’t even have that - my parents net worth is about $2MM. They have a decent life but they are in their 70s and still working because they want to be able to pass something along to their kids when they die. As a father I understand it, but it also makes me sad. My goal is $10MM so I can tell my parents to retire and still be able to take care of my own kids’ inheritance.

It’s funny, at a certain age your own existence and happiness becomes the least important of all to you.

It’s not so much the number itself I have an exact problem with. It’s the fact most people aiming for $1million on here are short sighted niggers that only plan for their own life and not their descendants’.
If you’re a third worlder, $1MM may be a fine amount. But in the first world? Especially the US where hyperinflation is set to hit by the end of 2021? One million won’t mean as much as you think.

I think it's important to remember that in the USA it really isn't. Even compared to the developed countries Americans working the prestigious jobs, for example GPs over there make about £130k after tax, workers at FANG make the same in their mid twenties, neurosurgeons literally make like £500k after tax if they work in a less desirable area.

That's probably where the idea comes from, since it is so easy to become a millionaire in the USA.

>six rental units on a million dollars
Not where I live, which is the whole point of “$1 million isn’t enough everywhere”.
I guess I should also have mentioned this isn’t my first rodeo. I’m not insinuating that ten million from $10,000 is attainable in one bull run. I already made it into the mid six-figures range and have a near six figure salary (is six figures when you account for bonuses), so my jump to double digit millions while high isn’t impossible.
I also don’t advocate for never taking profits, I just don’t advocate for taking 100% profits at such a low number. I took 10% profits at certain milestones last time, and I will again. But the majority of it will remain in my coins of choice until they hit my target.

Ok from someone who legit has around ~$1million here is my EXACT EXACT problem.

My current financial situation is very comfy. I could live a COMFY life of vidya, anime, cutie girlfriend occasional holidays money splashes once in a while. I could do this for many years. 20 years easily. But when I spend money there’s that feeling of knowing my money is sinking, it’s depleting and I realise $1 million isn’t that much. It can’t sustain me forever.

Now couple that with the fact that I HAVE $1 million dollars why should I settle here. My life has improved so much so now I want real Fuck you money. I want a Lamborghini, I want a AP.

So there’s my dilemma, I can live off of $1 million comfy. I can’t live forever though. And now I want more. $1 million is that kinda middle ground area, it’s a lot. A lot more than most people will ever save. But you can TASTE the wealth. You want more. Why wouldn’t you.

With 1 MILLION dollaridoos you can retire in ANY nation in the world, even Lichtenstein. 500k to buy a nice home (depending on the location this will be a mansion or a shoebox apartment, but a home nonetheless). 250k to invest with a horizon of 1-3 decades. 250k to pay your expenses indefinitely.
With no rent to pay, 10-20k a year is more than enough to live extremely comfortably.

If you plan to have a family it's a bit different, but as a single, you'd have to be literally retarded not to retire on 1M. If you're smart you use the 250k investment to start a business.
