It would be to hard use in real life. I use ledger for one simple reason - it let's me interact with crypto safely. Yes, you could store your private key in a USB. Yes, you could use a paper wallet. Yes, you could memorise your seed. But all of these would make it impossible to use your crypto safely.

major advantage of a trezor is the built in capability of using shamir secret sharing. basically what this does is if you were to forget your pin, lose your trezor, or have it destroyed, you have minimum threshold of secrets needed to recreate the key. for instance a 3 of 4 scheme. the nice part is unless you have you the required # secrets to complete the scheme, the individual secrets reveal nothing about the other secrets, this is an advantage to say just splitting a 24 word secret into 4 parts. once one part is found the security is reduced.

so now you can store these secrets in otherwise unsecure places like on the cloud or somewhere more public.

Trezor also lets you use a 25th passphrase so even if all these secrets were compromised, a 25th word or phrase which only is in your head can still protect your keys. you can also set up fake wallets with only part of your stash to protect against a $5 hammer attack.

I made 10 eth recently from uniswap due to the accessibility of my eth funds using a ledger. It's so esay to interact with metamask and uniswap due to having one of these. Any idiot on biz that tells you to use paper wallet when they are literally the same thing is a retard.

Crypto can be hard. You can self pwn yourself by being too secure by thinking youll keep a passowrd in your head and forgeting it etc. Or you could write the seed down in too many places and someone could find it, Risk managment is 50% of this game, most dont seem to know it.

How is ledger with android? I only have an aged ThinkPad with linux that I rarely use and do most stuff from a phone these days. I looked at reviews of the associated wallet app thing for a nano and it seemed negative for non windows versions.

For the vast majority of people, Ledgers are king. So easy to manage, very secure and streamlined with Metamask to make it easy to transfer your tokens.

I get the concern about hacks but Metamask won't even let a transaction go through without the hardware plugged in.

I looked into the encrypted USB thing but it seemed like a whole load of hoops to jump through to basically do the same thing a Ledger does.

Every storage method has a risk to it - store your seed in a few places, minimise risk

As I understand it, the phone isn't going to be a threat unless someone also gets the nano, and if they get the pin wrong 3 it gets wiped, and I'll just have to restore from the seed phrase. I suppose phones get stolen more, but it's not like laptops are never stolen either.
