Is the only job worth anything.

Once you're an engineer, you're so good at math that anything is easy; business and economics are child's play to us engineers.

We can make big money by designing things, coding, or doing anything really.

Mechanical engineers specifically are the best. We can specialize in anything but also keep the general knowledge to learn anything.

Which engineering disciplines will have jobs in the future?
I wanna go into some sort of engineering. But which ones are on the up in terms of jobs and growth and opportunity in the future, and which ones are on the way down?

Currently thinking about, in this order
1. Electrical
2. Chemical
3. Automotive as a subset of Mechanical.......but is that aiming too narrow? There are only a few car companies in the world. How many car designer jobs can there be?

I studied maths and physics (french system where you do 2 years of prepa) then did software engineering at a top school.
Bought 50k link (started buying right after graduating), software engineering is weird, I make more money than mech/ee/chem engineers with the same experience, but I don't feel like an engineer, sure the job needs thinking but it must feel good when you're a mechanical engineering telling workers what to do, as a software engineer we are the workers, as in no one will do a lower task on a project, and those who "plan" for it and draw those management meme graphics are usually the most retarded people I've ever met.
Put it my 3 month notice, going hopefully the bullrun starts before I run out of money, wagecucking feels like kms I always like mechanics in physics I was going to do mechanical engineering but after discussing it with family and uncles I was convinced CS is the future and also you just spend the day sitting at your desk instead of visiting factories or whatever the fuck they do in ME.
I just wish I was back studying mathematics and solving problems for fun but my brain slowed down a lot since I graduated.

when did you get your FE
Actually dont have it yet but just got a job offer paying 99.6k without one. I just recently bought one of the NCEES practice exams so I can study for it. Since I'm in the construction industry of engineering, getting my PE is one of my goals. I have 3 years experience so far to put timing in perspective.
>and when is the latest youve seen people get it
I work with engineers who got it before they graduated college and I also work with engineers who still dont have one despite working 20 years in the industry. There is zero correlation to how good of an engineer you are based on having the FE or not. Some of the best engineers at my firm have failed the FE 3 times and gave up on it, and some of the newer engineers who dont understand anything on the job passed it with no problem before graduating college. However if you want to get your PE you should get your FE that way you wont need like 10 years experience or whatever it is to waive the FE requirement. I believe if you have your FE you only need two years experience and some references/sign-off from PEs to be eligible for the PE exam.
If you are in construction or public works I think your FE is necessary so that you can be eligible to take the PE earlier, and it also shows you're competent and on track to become a PE; if you're not going into construction or public works then the FE is nice to have to show competence but wont really do anything for you other than that.

My uni takes a Systems engineering approach therefore you have to take base courses from aerodynamics, ee, material science etc in the early semesters.
That's why I joked you can be a brainlet because you take intro courses in a lot of subjects but don't dive in as deep as the respective engineers. If you can't handle jumping across subjects very fast it can get taxing.

My first engineering job started at 50k as well.
Some advice for you, as soon as you actually get the hang of some of the tasks, or even the PURPOSE of some of the tasks that you're doing/helping with, take note of what it is why and it's being done.
You can then tailor your resume according to those things (and tailor your resume according to a particular job description), so that you actually sound like you know what youre talking about.
Doing this, I started at 50k, worked at that job for 3 months, but the commute was horrific (3-5 hours in the car every day) and the work wasn't exactly what I studied for.
Found another job for 54k, 15 minute drive from my place and was actually what I studied in college. Even though I was only at my first job for 3 months, I was able to get the hang of what was going on at work and what everyone was doing, so I was easily able to convey that information on my resume and show that I had valuable work experience.
I've been at that same job for 3 years, got raises to 62k, then 67k +16k bonus, then 72k +14k bonus. Just started looking for work again to see what's out there, and with my experience was able to get a 99.6k offer.
Once you get that first job, it becomes a lot easier to parlay your success and experience into a higher salary. Just play with how you can display your experience as relevant and valuable to the job youre applying for.
I dont make the most money, but I'm not very smart and was able to double my salary in 3 years without ever doing an internship. To me, I never thought I'd make 100k. Especially 3 years after my first job. I didnt even think I'd be able to graduate. And when I graduated I really didnt think I'd even be able to land a job. And I can't overstate that I am really dumb engineering wise. If I can do it, you can do it.

Engineers ate insufferable cunts that think they are math wizards, scientists and inventors. News flash, they are office cucks looking at spec sheets, excel and autocad who barely even math and wasted years learning retarded college level calculus, physics and stupid stem shit for no reason at all while holding onto the dream of grandeur universities like to sell to engineer cuckstudents. God I fucking can't stand these fucking idiots

I'm an engineer and a patent holder. Engineering isn't all that difficult, it's too hard for your average rube, but it is nothing you need to be quite intelligent to do. Engineers thinking they're extremely smart is the Dunning Kruger effect.

Engineering is lesser men taking the knowledge discovered by greater men and applying it to whateithey happen to be doing. It is advanced baking from a recipe and nothing more.

Math is a skill like learning to sew or how to bake. Anyone who can breath and wants to do it can. Mathematics is not the difficult aspect of engineering by any means (protip, none of it is particularly difficult). You're literally just taking what people before you figured out and plunging in your own numbers.

I have a masters in mechanical engineering and work at an oil+gas company. Good work, good money.

But I've made even more money from algorithmic trading and machine learning projects of my own.

I don't think it's that being an engineer means you can do anything, but that being the kind of person who wants to be an engineer is the kind of person who will be good at anything.
Though I know a lot of exceptions to this. So many of the professors when I was at uni are super old boomers who spend their lives just doing some mundane things extremely well.

Imagine being a bearing guy. You know bearings. That's it.

engineering, math skills, programming, physics, require visuospatial intelligence (spatial working memory mainly). not so much verbal intelligence or verbal working memory. that is the reason very few women apply to engineering or play
chess etc. statistically they have much lower spatial skills. some engineers especially those with masters degree tend to have high both verbal and spatial skills, but they are in minority perhaps like only 5% of them, those are the same people that could apply to medschool and so on

verbal intelligence women and
men tend to score very similarly. there are also conditions like schizhophrenia that hinder spatial skills and tradeoff to creative thinking or divergent thinking abilities. humans are complicated.

its a piramid, I believe there are more peole with high EQ than high IQ but the mix of high IQ-EQ is rare due to having a high IQ most often leads to underdeveloped social skills (Lack of finding engaing humans to interact with, and to learn the social-skills)
some people with high IQ are lucky enough to develop a healthy set of social-skills, those are the BoD type of people the tippy-top of the piramid

iq test is not a very good math skill predictor, but spatial working memory test is extremely
high correlation with math and physics skills however!

autism spectrum people, schizos, tourettes, adhd to some extent, and ocd, they tend to score medium-to-low on spatial working
memory. and iq test to very big range from low to very high. verbal working memory some
correlation with divergent thinking and is not typically affected by autism disorders as much
as spatial working memory. altought conditions
like schizhophrenia can cause severe working memory impairements both verbal and spatial

autistic people tend to be more introverted. but ive also seen people who have really bad social skills that is simply because they are very dumb, like abnormally dumb people. basic
social situations and basic behavior maybe struggle for them. they are not even autistic, just lower end of intelligence i guess. autistic people may understand the situation and be able to read others well but they are too akward or introverted
