I decided to start investing for the first time tomorrow since it seems we are always going up. Did my research and settled on Zoom and Tesla options on Robinhood since they are the big gainers and instead of using Yahoo Finance I am trying out Trading View for advanced strategies to give me the edge. Two questions. I understand the green means the price is up and red is the price went down. But why are some lines different lengths? And what does it mean at the top of the screen where it has 5m, 30m, 1 hr etc. Is that projecting what the price will be in the future?

This is *still* nothing compared to the 1999-2000 dotcom bullshit. Maybe it's difficult to wrap your head around but what's happening now is kiddos with a decent chunk of change making good gains and going "oh my god that's waging for 6 months bro so cray" or whatever you niggers say now.

During the dotcom, people were genuinely going from making $17 an hour to multimillionaires within days based on hype. This isn't close to that. You don't even know real FOMO if you didn't live through that.

You don't DCA. You lump sum drop it into the market. There are endless numbers of papers that show that DCA is still "timing the market".
The real DCA worth anything is if you are capital constrained i.e. its part of your paycheck every X months. Then you make it a regular schedule so you remind yourself to do it and to prevent yourself from micromanaging into a loss.
If you are going for the "BUY AND HODL" meme across years or decades it doesn't fucking matter what the underlying is doing now. It'll be just slight noise. If you don't have a secular argument for the underlying to rise over years or decades than you don't buy/DCA it in the first place for long holds.

To expand on this a bit more: the key to value investing, which Shkreli advocates in his series, is to pore over the financial statements and all available information for specific companies in specific sectors to determine a PRESENT VALUE of that company: what is the company "actually worth" in terms of PV and is its market cap at, below, or higher than the PV you have calculated based on your assumptions? You are literally trying to quantify whether the future cash flows of a company justify its current price.

The current paradigm is more something along the lines of "holy shit look at tech that shit is blowing the fuck up I better put my money in tech because look how much it's gone up!!"

I was in the web consulting biz during the dotcom boom. I didn't make a penny (well, I had a handsome salary) since I didn't understand stocks at all, but I remember being constantly annoyed that pretty much every project was absolutely fucking shit stupid, and being vaguely aware that some of those moronic projects were making their "founders" (some dumb bimbo with pink hair who couldn't code and her cat) millionaires.
I'm still in the business. I don't see any such idiocy now. FAGMAN aren't a bunch of yokels hoping to sell socks online for $2T yearly. The closest thing is the DeFi craze (not in money, but in being a new, hyped thing that normies only vaguely understand but sense there's money in it) and that's at least ran by fairly tech competent scammers, not some cat-lady with a nephew who knows HTML.
This is not the dotcom bubble. It might be some other kind of bubble, I haven't turned into a financial genius since then, but from a technical standpoint this is the opposite of the dotcom bubble, the consolidation into competence and viable business ideas.

>While Dwyer remains positive on the fundamentals of this current economic and market cycle, he does believe the market will be susceptible to 3-7% sell-offs like it was in the fall of 2009. Subpar market breadth and increased investor optimism give Dwyer reason for short-term caution.

And if the market does experience a sell-off as Dwyer expects, investors should use that opportunity to add exposure to certain sectors that will benefit from the reopening of the economy, including industrials, financials, materials, and consumer sectors, he concluded.

Sorry if this is retarded but I'm confused about estimated taxes, what if I'm a wagecuck, do I need to estimate all the taxes for my job along with capital gains? So I need to pay my own taxes every quarter instead of just once a year, and include both capital gains and my job's salary? Even if it's just $1000?

What do you mean by crash? There are frequent retests of the monthly 20ma. The recent moves since March is really sharp and we are 50pts above the monthly 20ma. About 14%. So there is a lot of space for retest. Hopefully we will get something like March 2015 where we go sideways for a few months so we don’t shock the system.

I may have misread it and confused myself. The IRS page says it's only for income not subject to witholding, I just want to be certain.

>Opportunity cost of holding a stock that underperforms simple momentum trading on dumb zoomer stocks. Oil is on a long term macro trend out over 50-80 years in the East but will be out of the Western world within the next 20 years or so.
Past performance is not indicative of future results, first of all. Zoomer tech is overbought, and is showing signs of losing momentum.

Second, I do not share your opinion re: reliance on fossil fuels in the West. For example, the power grid in CA is constantly on the brink of failure due to an overreliance on "clean" energy. Companies like XOM spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year researching how to make fossil fuel burn cleaner and more efficiently. Mass adoption of EVs is at least 40 years away - assuming there aren't economy of scale issues w/ EV battery production (there will be.)

I don't know man. Oil is certainly risky. Tech is risky too. And again, XOM yields 9% dividend.

I'm just not convinced about oil. I think TSLA's success as a brand has created something of a delusion among a lot of people.

TSLA's weird, they man very well become the standard to which all self driving EVs are held. They are in a position to basically be the CocaCola/Amazon of Self Driving EVs. If not having a damn near monopoly.
