Can someone explain splitting stocks to me? I bought a share of apple a few months ago but I literally have no idea what any of this means.

It is a method companies use to control the price of their shares by controlling the total number of shares available. Under $1 and about to be delisted, they may reverse split turning 8 shares into 1 share. Shares too expensive for normal folks to buy, limiting liquidity, they may split everyone's shares into 2 shares for every one.

But seriously anon, you can google this shit. No reason to feed me dopamine pretending to be some know-it-all online.

You cant buy fractions of a share.
If price is to high, most oeople dont buy because you have to buy with large amount of fiat for one share. So from time to time they split it into smaller pieces. Just a sort of rebase.
