Just don't ever expect to see her. Between school, studying, rotations, etc. she'll have no time for you and that's before she starts her residency and internship. Try to steer her towards dermo or anesthesiology. They're hyper-competitive buy have a much better work/life balance than other fields. I dated a girl who was in her residency as a vascular surgeon and despite having a beautiful, expensive townhome and making good money, she was absolutely miserable. If she was lucky, she was only working 70 hours a week, had to schedule leave 3 months in advance, and was always on-call on her days off. Because of this she literally couldn't go further than a 30 minute drive away from the hospital because if she did get called in, she'd have to get there within the hour or she would have been fucked.

You've got to basically get straight A's in college, bust your ass in med school, and spend the next 8-10 years grinding it out, doing the grunt work, working long hours, getting drastically underpaid before you start making a high salary and get slightly better hours. And that doesn't even take into account the student loan debt from med school.

I work as an RE Appraiser and would take my current position over any MD job any day of the week. I work for myself, set my own hours, pays well, and can expense just about everything. Thanks to the '07 subprime mortgage collapse, they kicked the rungs at the bottom of the ladder, making it significantly more difficult for young people to get in the field and with the average appraiser in their 50s and most of them not planning on working in the next 20 years, there's a shitload of opportunities. If you get your MAI you can command at least 200k a year anywhere in the US or work for yourself making a minimum of 180K a year and have someone work under you doing all the research and heavy lifting.

If you do decide it's something you're interested in and want to pursue, check your state's licensing board's requirements. They're the gatekeepers and you want to make sure everything is done to the tee when you submit your application and packets. Go through McKissock for your course requirements. They're all online and the best overall value for money compared to AI and other schools. Also, try to get in touch with a local appraiser and offer to help them out to gain experience. It's infinitely easier and faster to get your experience log filled through fee work than ad valorem (mass appraising/government RE tax which is how I got mine). You'll do a lot of grunt work, but working under an experienced and knowledgable appraiser will help you out more than any coursework you'll ever take.

The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is to have loyalty and show appreciation to those who help you along the way. I know a lot of appraisers who flat out refuse to sign off on any experience logs or help out people trying to get their license because they've been fucked over one too many times. Most people dip once they get their license and don't keep up the relationship with the person who's helped mentor them through the process and put their reputation on the line by putting their signature on that person's experience log. It's a shit move and a fast way sour your reputation, which is vital if you want to make it in this field.

Also, you're going to have to make your start in residential. Which is fun but can be mundane at times. If you're more business-minded, try to get into commercial appraising as soon as you can.
