Narrow your choices to a few coins, read into them, check who is working on it, what the price history is, recent activity, communications, partnerships etc. If what you see looks promising, take the gamble. If you are unsure, walk away.
I feel it's impossible to get the rug pulled, just be sure in what you are buying and don't spread too much. Keep on eye on your interests.

sigh, my post is about to be like a copy pasta from another similar thread but here we go.

1) have a fixed bankroll management. leave something between 50-80% in very safe shits that should go up (some consider only btc and eth, but others consider btc, eth and link)

2) let's say you put 80% in the holy 3, then you could get 15% and distribute among the safest or considered safest defi coins: god tier defi coins1) aave 2) snx 3) yfi
S tier defi coins: Ren, Lrc, RSR and others

then you will still have 5% of your bankroll to gamble. then if you decide you are going to put it into shitcoins you shouldn't go all in in just 1 project. perhaps spread it into at least 2-3 gamble coins, ideally something like 5 so your gains supposedly compensate your losers.

if you lose everything you know this isn't your game and you just saved the remaining 95% of your bankroll. congratz, it could have been way worse. now don't gamble in those shitcoins, or if you still want to do it, do it with new money, don't get money from your safest coins.

once the whole market has went at least 10-20x in usd from where it is now you will have made 20x your current folio. sounds boring and not sexy but that's what gives you the money. same thing applied for trading btw.
