you clearly have no idea how academia works. You don't need to have a "real" job to get a professor position, in fact some places might even hold that against you. And having a PhD is 100% mandatory for getting a professor job, as well as various kinds of industrial research jobs. That said it's hard as fuck to get a decent job like that even with a PhD, and the risk/reward profile is pretty bad, but saying it doesn't open up any extra opportunities is just wrong

But that’s how professors do get their jobs. It’s 100% shit pay for a while though since you have to do a post-doc and then the uni or institution will hire you after you’re done. Adjunct profs are treated like step children, and when you finally get that associate professor job you’re still not making a lot and you have to do a lot of grant writing. Industry is much better. I constantly look at job postings for jobs in my field and the base pay is around 120k, with an overall median of 160-180k. The real goal is to work as a consultant though, where you make loads of cash.
