once the dollar collapses how are you going to use gold to trade? if you have 1 oz bars sitting around you aren't going to use those for trading. You'll have to smelt them and divvy them up into fractional pieces, minting your own coins essentially. Have you thought about the stamp you'll put on your coins? Your own face? A dick?
Will average people trade valuable goods for gold in the event of a total collapse?

inflation equals money supply and velocity, back in previous bouts of QE the money the fed printed never went into the real economy. but now the US gave massive amounts of stimulus to ordinary people in the form of 1200 checks and 600 dollar in unemployment, all printed money. not only that, unlike before massive amounts of ordinary people are now trading in the stock market using apps like Robin Hood, meaning the fed money they're pumping into the market will trickle down into the real economy. half the people I know irl have made thousands and thousands of dollars in this bull market.

No, you're missing the point. After US loses the reserve currency status and the dollar collapses in value because there won't be any demand for the dollar anymore since we barely produce anything, other countries will go back to the gold standard.

People say the economy / dollar will collapse literally every single year.

I had fun browsing a precious metals forum archive from 1999, where all the boomers were circlejerking on how the dollar becoming useless and hyperinflate is just around the corner!

The fed are fucking money magicians they will keep this zombie economy chugging for decades.

Also the US dollar is backed by the military which is basically the major global superpower, other countries currency would collapse way before dollars.
