I really can’t wait for all the industry funded FUD ends when it’s clear no more black hat activity will slow LINK down and this garbage dumps 90% on a day.

I don’t know if the average nufags realize how much institutional investors are FUDing their own investment (in LINK) just as /Biz/ did but on a larger scale.

Such as propping up a complete scam like BAND to offer some “competition.” Or Tezos/whoever deploying “Oracles”

I agree, but BAND was definitely intentionally helped into the spotlight. A normiebase listing for a liter copy and paste job by Indian pajeets that barely speak English?

Pretty obvious.

The best part about all of LINK’s “competition” is as oldfags know, LINK cornered the market and acquired all the requisite tech before a market even existed, for any midwits still holding out hope some underdog team is going to come out of nowhere and dethrone LINK as the de facto oracle provider in the space.

I’m not a coder myself. Have only dabbled in it. And I’m too stupid to continue learning more.
But when you program, you need random number generation when you architect systems
This type of thing comes standard in modern languages. But it doesn’t, or hasn’t exist(ed) within a blockchain because of the way blockchains are designed. And it is this design that gives them the security properties that make them valuable.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but proof of work wastes a lot of energy determining who receives a block reward. I thought there was an old speech where Sergey is talking about using ChainLink for randomness to actually solve this problem.

the point isn't that its "truly random" in the sense that its not deterministic, but rather, that its verifiably random without trust. The problem with PRNGs on blockchains without a decentralized oracle network like chainlink is that they only have information in the blockchain availible to them to use to seed the generators. The newest block is determined by a miner (or staker), and that miner/staker can manipulate what they decide to put in the block/how they decide to structure the block to change the outcome of RNG. They can also mine a block like normal, but use the information in the block to take actions based on the outcome of RNG before releasing the block. This is a pretty big deal, and is discussed as an open problem in the ethereum whitepaper. Chainlink now solves two of the four major open problems in the ethereum whitepaper: decentralized oracles, verifiable randomeness, (both solved) scaling, and usable fully homomorphic encryption.

More like nearly all. This is how nearly all rng is done. Its pseudo rng which pass statistical tests that make the sequence of random numbers seem random. There are even methods to generate 'more random' looking numbers lmao (like the sobol set)

If I understand properly, Chainlink VRF has a hidden danger.

The smart contract need to provide a seed to Chainlink in order to request randomness. If anyone know the seed and the private key of the oracle at the same time, he knows the randomness.

As a hacker, I can deploy my oracles in the chainlink oracle network, and then create smart contracts calling my oracles.

The randomness Chainlink gives to users depends on the seed gaved, it's not safe at all.

It's really dangerous. Or I just misunderstand something.

>> No.21918074

>>21917945
you would have to know the private keys of all oracles involved, at that point your attack constitutes the same as a sybil attack which CL should be resistant to in the first place

The incentive of pay out of a properly working network means that "buying" a big majority of the nodes (80%, 51 would not be effective) would require money on the scale of the marketcap

>> No.21918294

>>21918074
What if I create smart contracts which only refer to the oracles which I have private keys? The creators of smart contracts can collaborate with the oracle providers, specially when the oracles providing the data the users need are rare.

The users of these smart contracts will never know someone controls all these things. They think their data is safe because of randomness, but someone knows the randomness all the time.

But the ones who want to fuck users will never let others know they have the private keys of these oracles.

Someone can build a company providing oracles at first, building reputation. Years later, his friends build other companies creating smart contracts for users. They can collaborate with each other and fuck the users.

>> No.21918542

>>21918501
the point is that with a bunch of oracles of good reputation you will simply make more money in the long run being honest than destroying them for a scam
And the more money there is in the scam, the higher stake the customers will demand you to lose for it

>> No.21918544

>But the ones who want to fuck users will never let others know they have the private keys of these oracles.
There are ways to make it verifiable that the contract operator and oracles do not know each other: mixicles, verifiable randomness, TEEs, ...

Without this, people have to assume the contract operator and oracles might be in cahoots.
