To give you an idea, the interview was with someone working for a startup sci-code.com and promoting their platform diggit.no. It's supposed a platform to rate your coding skills and for employers to look for potential candidates for their work.
The course requires a subscription of $39 monthly. Not too bad, but I wonder if this is subtle shilling for this learning website.

Does all of this sound legit or fishy to you?

Well yes it sounded really fishy and more like a shill, but the idea actually sounds pretty good. It wasn't just frontendmasters.com, there were also books suggested.
I already got a JS course on an Udemy-account I share with my uncle in addition to React. I guess I will settle with these instead
