I started investing after the crash. Tossed 2k in at first, made a little money, tossed another 2k in, and eventually worked my account up to 10k in a couple months. Crabbed down for a bit, and was back up to 10k a month ago. In the last few weeks I've lost 4k (40% of my port) investing in FLIR, PM's, and miners. I wanna rope, it hurts bad.

I received about $21K last year in dividends and capital gains distributions overall.

My dividend portfolio is only at $182K with about $5700 per year. The rest comes from my mutual funds. However I'm building my dividend portfolio much faster now.

all is reinvested for compounding purposes. it starts off extremely small to the point where you wonder why you're doing it, but it snowballs and compounds when it gets larger. I'm finally seeing the payoff of the passive income after years of consistently investing what I could, which wasn't much when I was younger.

Another epic day of green. Do both growth and divvies if you can. Get the best of both and worry not a bit. But might I say that here's one you may want to bag; T. A fat divvy (0.52 x 4), a fat yield (7%), cheap price per share ($30). And unlike most He will always be there unless people all toss smartphones into the shat hole. What does your shat bank pay out now? 0.50%.. Bag Him now and wait 27 years. Be rewarded with a fat payout and not having to sell nothing in the process.

Is this another one of those "sector rotation" days? Have noticed this shit too many times and if that is any indicator that one analyst meme "buy the dip" for tech might apply. Worst part was i closed out some long term buy calls....during the morning dump. I've been closing them since last week. The freaking stock has pumped by over 5% of it's value....that really pisses me off as I've held it for quite some time only for the "sector rotation" to happen again just as I sold the remainder....luckily i bought further dated calls right before selling the remainder.

Settled funds is basically a broker term for money that's undergone a waiting period after you've made a transaction (either a deposit or a sale) and the broker considers it safe to trade again.

It's done because in some cases, it's possible to "roll back" a transaction - say I deposit $10,000 into my brokerage but then call my bank and tell them to stop payment. If I buy stock with that money, bad things happen.

The tech to boomer rotation is only something to trade while thinking its stupid and short term. Tech is the jewel of the stock market

Oil is a terrible investment.

Its the marginal oil demand that matters. If people see oil on the decline it means the stored oil is better to pump, further declining oil value.

Its not good to be in oil energy because of the compounding declines it will face.

Sivleranon, you buy PMs as a hedge against massive inflation. Or any serious inflation really, which is coming. The fed is printing money right now but while this drives stonks up it's actually causing stonk inflation. like how you'd inflate the price of bread, houses, it's going into stonks. In the next big crash, all that money is leaving stonks and going somewhere else. Perhaps gold.

You don't seem to grasp the question of stability. The bigger you are the harder you fall. A -10% day for the NASDAQ at this point wipes ~$1tn of wealth out. If AAPL drops 10%, that's $200bn. In real terms that level of disruption is unprecedented. And yes, people are in fact paying a hefty premium for the intrinsic safety of the tech sector because of the health pandemic. As things trend down the combined instability and volatility will push money out of tech. A lot of the money currently in tech was forced there by negative yield treasuries, and poor bond outlook. As interest rates are adjusted and yields are improved that safety will be sought. There is more upside to be had with speculation toward a company with 30 PE than there is with something at 1000 PE.

I'd like people's thoughts on tesla, they mostly produce luxury vehicles. And they're anticipating money making after a pandemic which has three major factors:
1. Working from home is the norm, lessened demand for cars
2. Massive recession. Luxury goods are de-prioritised as consumer expenses
3. skyrocketing wealth inequality, pumped by fed printing and massive corp bailouts, making purchasing power lower and therefore luxuries more expensive.
My view is: Lost capital. Capital is being forcably pumped into the system by the fed, and understandably investors NEED to invest because every dollar the fed prints takes away from the value these investment companies hold. They cannot hold USD and they are forced into stocks and markets. So stocks rise, in a massively speculative way, as speculation is now mandatory.
How this won't end in disaster is beyond me.
