Most everything pre 9/11 feels like some kind of alternate universe or dream that I experienced.
I had a great childhood, it prepared me for very little in this life. I hate to think it but parents might provide the comfiest and most sheltered childhoods for their children out of selfishness.
They don't want to see their child in pain or face unnecessary hardship, trial or tribulation... all of which molds a person and makes them stronger and more resilient to the world around us.
I wouldn't change it though, my memories are the brightest part of the world I now live.

Nostalgia nigers are losers who had good childhoods and spent the rest of their lives depressed and are incapable of looking at anything exceot through the lens of past (happy childhood time) good, present (sad adult time) bad.
Even if you don't think the best games are being made now you can download romsets and play every game made up to this point. It is UNQUESTIONABLE whether or not the best time to play games is now. You just are broken people either incapable of enjoying them or who expect them to fill a hole in your lives video games aren't supposed to fill.

The only alternative to this is of course, the game I stumbled upon when I was a kid was through a stroke of fortune the greatest game ever made.

I'm not sure I was a little kid with the gamecube so there is a big nostalgia factor for me here. Im from 1994 so I was in my early teens when TP got released on the gamecube.
I recently started the HD version on the wiiu and it's pretty cool.
TP has some great boss battles, but you really need to be dragged into the atmosphere it has a bit of the dark vibe as MM, but not as much. I just really enjoyed the story. Every Zelda besides MM and BoTW feel like a massive drag to me nowadays, I guess we are just spoiled with open world and fast pace games.

Hmm I really liked the wolf parts. I think it got pretty good when you got to hyrule castle for the first time which is pretty early on in the game, but old zelda games are really slow as always. the gerudo boss is cool and all but the pace gets better when you can swim with the zora suit. After that its insanely fast.

You are sitting in a plane on your way to japan. you get out your switch because you have some downtime and you're just catching some poki mans having a blast, the music is really nice and relaxing and you wind down a bit from your travels. When you arrive you fuck some nice japanese women and you are doing your work. You enjoy a nice bowl of ramen and you did some sight seeing and even worked out in the hotel gym. Now it's a day to relax a bit and take some time off you play a little bit more of poki mans and life is good.

I play games with my friends like super smash and mario kart and even women come over and play games. Just because they don't fit in your life doesn't mean it doesn't fit in other people their lives. playing is how we learn, is how animals learn. playing video games builds upon this learning progress by making it fun as well. Couch co-op games are funny and socialising. I really don't give a shit what you think. I work out 5 days a week, I am outside often, but I live in the middle of a big city. I often ride my motorcycle to different countries which is rather easy to do in europe. I have a good fulfilling life, I picked up skills like guitar and different languages along the way, besides my job as a game developer where I am learning a lot about C++ development and even play vidya with my coworkers every now and then sometimes for research purposes, sometimes for pure fun.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here? I am happy that your life has gotten better when you got rid of vidya all together, but you sound like one of those ex alcoholics preaching to a dude that's just enjoying a beer on the beach with his buddies on a hot summer day.

I've really been going through a phase reminiscing about The legend of Zelda games a lot recently. Mostly through listening to the soundtracks, remixes, etc.

There is a sense of psychological...something involved with this game that goes way past fucking nostalgia. I feel like this whole series was an MKUltra of sorts for a new generation....and it seemingly, OVERWHELMINGLY brought people like us together, at first decades ago when we participated in the puzzles of the series, and now later, where 4chan solves a lot of fucked up puzzles too.

This is actually a developed theory of mine past what I typed here, don't fuck with me.

The problem with it, was that the whole functionality for it was a Nintendo 64 bug. Some memory of the previous game inserted was still there, so Rare wanted to enable certain content in Banjo if you ex bought Perfect Dark.
