Frugal thread?

Everyone always talks about how much money they want to make but I think it's more important to manage expenses. Let's share money saving tips.

>instead of buying paper towels I'll buy small hand towels in bulk for about $4. I haven't bought paper towels in 3 years.
>I will open 0% interest cards and use them like debit cards to get $100- $150 cash incentive then pay it off and stop using it.
>I shop around for car insurance every 6 months or so. I find most places intentionally creep the prices up because they think you're too stupid or lazy to switch. Saved $30 a month this month.
>Don't buy cable. Get decent Internet and a computer. Watch shows on places like putlocker and just hook your computer up to your tv. If you're really lazy get a wireless mouse and keyboard.

If you are getting your goods where niggers shop then you know you have the best deal, in the UK I shop at farm foods, way cheaper than even aldi but you just have to deal with the clientele that go there.

I have a house but I airbnb it for 1-2k a month and rent a cheap room for £460 in a shared house. Most times I clean it myself and save30-40£ a time, if i'm busy will just pay a cleaner.

I am very frugal except for tech, I used to just have a shit computer and phone but now I have a Samsung S9 and new MacBook, probably the best investment you will make in terms of productivity and all the things you can do easier and hassle free, still I will keep them for a long time though

Frugality is a defensive, losing strategy used in cases of resource scarcity. We are living in a world of constant resource abundance.
It is better to spend towards growth and increased access to resources than it is to save towards stagnation. Nature favors the creatures that attempt to acquire new resources, not those that hoard some niche in hopes nothing bad happens.

With regard to piracy, thriftiness, and laziness:

I run an Emby server (it's like a better version of Plex) on a spare computer of mine running linux
You could also just run it on your main computer since it's not that resource intensive but I run it on the spare computer for the uptime

Emby cuts down on the work needed to watch pirated shit and makes it a prettier experience than even Netflix
You basically just find and download a movie or show from like rarbg or 1337x or whatever you're favorite torrenting site is, then move the file into your emby server folder and
>walla
you can access that movie anywhere you want at any time, often with subtitles, chapters, meta information like cast info, release date, what time the show/movie will end at, and a few more

It makes the pirating experience go from janky and /frugal/ to totally worth it and enjoyable

This. Unironically. And you won't even have more money or financial freedom in the end. While you look for every cent and become a greedy bastard not enjoying life, someone else builds a nice social circle, lives his life, eats i expensive restaurants and goes clubbing while at the same time he is building up valuable connection to people and social skills. Through that one is able to make it, successful careers are built on connections. People who made it, did this by having the right network, not by saving money by grinding hard and bean eating

>> No.21778890

If you want flavoured drinks buy bulk teabags or leaves instead of drinking soda or beer everyday. I live in a relatively expensive country and I can still get like 100+ teabags for $1. I drink it black without sugar to keep my weight low.

Coffee is a bit more expensive, but even if you like fancy shit there's no reason you can't buy a french press or machine online instead of going to cafes every week like you're larping as Seinfeld. This is a bit less applicable since covid but still, you can get used machines on ebay for like <$100.

Make sandwiches, wraps or rice instead of getting fast food or junk. If you stock up on veg every 2 weeks and a few long-lasting, cheap meats like salami, smoked ham, frozen ground beef etc. you can have a lot of easy meals that are cheap, tasty, and healthy. Even just a salad with raw chopped onion, tomatoes, lettuce and capsicum tastes really good with a bit of salt and pepper, maybe avocado every so often if it's in season. Peanuts and beans are cheap as shit.

Quit every shitty addiction you have. Smoking, pot, alcohol, the lot. You won't just save money but you'll realize psychologically you're a lot freer without them. Cold turkey is the best method unless you're on something with life threatening withdrawals.

Instead of having 300 games you never play, buy like 1-3 on sale with a lot of replay value or that you can use to socialize, and just play old games on emulators.

Physical books are a waste of space and money, if you like reading seriously just get a good e-reader or ReadEra on mobile (it's one of the better free ones that doesn't have ads). There are millions of interesting fiction and nonfiction texts in public domain.

Have hobbies that save/save money or build your skills without costing a shitload. Gardening, hiking, running, writing, swimming, drawing... even graphic design and music production have a lot of cheap freeware if you look.

I currently live in a trailer. You can buy an old single wide for 1-5k. However then you have to pay $150-$300 in lot rent. Where I'm from you can buy a small house in a small town for 25k, with property taxes of around $25 a month.
-Live with your parents while you save money, it will allow you to save almost all of your income. If you have to move out go with a trailer or small house, it beats the shit out of renting.

I usually eat meals based around some sort of carb (corn, rice, oats, potatoes, etc) and high-protein beans (black beans, lentils, peas, onions/tofu, etc) and a fat source (corn oil, olive oil, butter, etc). Based on just that, you can get in 2200 cal, 80 protein, 60 fat, fiber, minerals, etc for about $30 a month. Add in some marked down or gardened fruits/vegies and cheap/hunted/fished complete protein and you're golden. I personally volunteer at a food pantry and get almost all of my food (besides carbs, beans and oils) for free.

For hobbies I like lifting, running, cooking, music, hunting, fishing, gardening, 4chan. Almost all of those are either free or extremely cheap. Hunting and fishing can save you hundreds in meat cost. I also want to fight and travel, which will cost money. You can do whatever you want though.

Not sure. I would like a qt gf that's on board with my philosophy. If I can find that kind of women then I could have kids, but doing so doesn't sound pleasant.

What else?

Be aware though that running from the world won't make your problems go away. I just prefer to live this way because I don't have much interest in further capitalism once my basic needs are met. The only reason for me to get a job again are if I want a bigger car/nicer house/more stuff (I don't), invest more money into the market (once you reach a certain level of minimalism there isn't really a point in building massive amounts of paper-wealth) or supporting a family (unsure on that one).

However, since quitting my job I feel a massive sure of tranquility, gratitude, closeness (to my family) and have reached an even higher level of thrift (preserving what goods I have).

I'm (mostly) retired at 27. If I would have known about personal finance earlier, I would have done it asap and retired in my early 20's, spending the rest of my life laughing at wage-niggers.

You can have a happy and rich life without spending money on useless garbage everyday.

I'd rather cook a healthy, nutritious and cheap meal and eat it with friends than be in an expensive restaurant with people I don't give a shit except for the networking.
I'd rather spend my money on free time (I'm 31 and already took 5 years off thanks to frugality) than living for a career and become a millionaire at 50 when I'm old and can't have erections.

I'm a cheap fuck to the extreme but I still have a loving frugal gf I traveled 2 years around the world with, a family I care about and see regularly, close friends, hobbies, go outside everyday, know 4 languages and 2 musical instruments (nothing better for networking actually) and ancient bosses who will recommend me wherever I want to work next.

To a certain extent you'll also need status symbols like a decent suit or a nice house for accommodating your guests, but it's not all that it's about and i didn't promote silly consumerism. But the reality is that people care what you look like and that it will effect outcomes of your businesses. But probably senseless to discuss with you as you already fell for the frugal meme and don't realize what a stingy unsympathetic guy you became. Besides dealing drugs, winning fights in social circles is the most guaranteed way to get pussy. It's hardwired, so fucking deeply in females, that no flashy rings and nice cars can top the status of the current dominant male in a physical escalation.

There is a flip side to this however. Alphas in the wild actually disengage fights, with both man and beast. The simplest way to fight off large predators in the pre-historic era was the same way basic tribes that have no contact with society do now; wave a giant stick on fire over your head or make lots of noise. And in tribal settings, fights would often be very brutal with an estimated 1/3 to 1/4 of men dying through this system, therefore, talking down fights, preventing them but being able to stand your ground is the true picture. That's why giant gym chads with their overinflated muscles are actually gross to some girls, they are over-compensating and lacking the true virtue of manhood, defusing fights but if it comes down to one, be prepared to throw the fuck down.

Either we are thinking of different things concerning making it or you don't get how big money is earned. For you it's some kind of low activity life where you try to need as few resources as possible with the goal of reaching some kind of semi independent state where you don't need to work anymore by the age of around 50 if everything works as planned. For me it's having as quickly as possible a fuck you stack of assets and cash to be able to do what i want and to be fully independent. This is not reachable with saving but with earning. Also it's nice if you got friends and family who don't judge you on status symbols, that's good. But the reality is that a big part of business and career making is display of status, i can't change that.

>For me it's having as quickly as possible a fuck you stack of assets and cash to be able to do what i want and to be fully independent. This is not reachable with saving but with earning.

I want the exact same thing, but fuck you money is relative. 100k might last you two years, but it could theoretically last me 50 (not counting inflation, disasters, etc). I could retire off of cash only with a few years of work. So for me, it is possible.

>Also it's nice if you got friends and family who don't judge you on status symbols, that's good. But the reality is that a big part of business and career making is display of status, i can't change that.

I'm sure you're right. Someone looking at me right now would never to do business with me. But again, in my world it isn't relevant.

There's a lot of propaganda concerning frugalism out there. You slave away your best years saving every cent into your msci world etf and hope to retire with 50. What is the sense of that? Btw a lot of guys only have a short phase of frugalism. As soon as they fall in love and want to start a family, the prospect of doing this in a tinyhouse and having to look for every cent isn't so great after all. I think the movement started because we were scammed by babyboomers. If normal work would pay off for a house and decent living with a family as it was for our parents, the movement wouldn't be there. Instead we are paying their debts in the form of monetary devaluation and giant asset price inflation.

Ausfag reporting.

I have. Its probably my best money saving strategy while making passive income, I try to be on the road at least 3 to 4 months a year for it to work well. Nothing is more liberating than letting go of uneccessary shit that keeps you to one place

Some general pointers.
>24/7 gym membership like anytime fitness is easy access to training and showers.
> get a reliable accessories that you can carry over when you upgrade vehicles before purchasing 4wd or van. Im talking rechargeable solar panels for electronics (or a small mining set up you're carrying), portable fridge and freezer and kitchenwares.
> hug the coastline and bring a fishing rod or a surfboard. Only buy ingredients when you need it. Literally live like a king, catch and cook your own food.
> dont rush, stay around at a place for a few days, get familiar. Its easy to get into the mentality of a quick week on holidays when youre a wagecuck. This is an exercise in undoing repression. Take your time.
> dont be afraid to travel with people. I usually go on tinder or some dating app about a month or so before the trip and hook up with a like minded chick and we travel together, (usually a backpacker from Europe)
It can be pretty great if you vibe well, plus youve got a fuckbuddy too...which you both can capitalise and make content together because why the fuck not? Simps pay for anything.

You keep returning to this point. None of us give a shit about careers. You're talking about a spiral where you make lodsamoney to spend it on status items to impress peers which boosts your career so you make more money which you spend on status items... etc. If you get pleasure out of that chase, then fine. In which case working ceaselessly for mad income flow just gets in the way between us and the hobbies/activities that actually fulfill us.

Tbh I actually only used a van once it was a 2005 Toyota Hiace, I much prefer 4wd's.
Preferably Toyotas since maintenance and parts are cheap as chips and most mechnics have worked with them.
Either a troopy or a landcrusier if I find them for cheap + it allows you to travel off road more comfortably.
First 4wd I used was a 1998 Mitsubishi Challenger which did the job well.

This was during the time of premium snapchats, before the Thot Audit, onlyfans wasnt as big a deal then.
Just made a throwaway email and account and spoofed locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Florida California, like major city hubs.

We were probably just lucky desu, but we had a fun doing it and we hit a receptive market early on.
> people paid for content we made like a few weeks prior and just add artificial scarcity
>just top it up with lewd "prank" videos and some photos once or twice a day.

No you're getting it wrong. It's the exact other way around, you don't stay unmarried so you can be frugal. The reason you have to be frugal is so you can be worthy and actually afford a cutie wife like me, you virgin. Now get to work.

>Earning more has essentially theoretical infinite potential, while cost of living reduction has a floor you can hit.
This is obviously true. But it isn't relevant.
In real life, most people have a fairly fixed income. Most people can't drastically increase their income. But most people can drastically reduce their expenses.
Secondly, you can be frugal regardless of income. Saving money means you have to live below your means. So regardless of whatever your income is you need to learn ways to save money and spend less than what you earn. A real redpill is that almost everyone is broke, regardless of income, we are conditioned to spending all we have immediately. So threads like these are useful to everyone and there's really no downside to most of the tips and tricks in this thread.

I don't think extreme frugality is the most optimal way of living your life. It's not that difficult to cut down on the big stupid expenses like unnecessary credit card spending on useless shit, smoking, buying starbuck every day etc but you start to get into diminishing returns when you talk about shit like washing your hair less often to save on shampoo.

At that point you'll get a better ROI focusing on yourself, getting a better job, building a business, stacking more shitcoins or w/e

People saying not to focus on expenses, here's why you are wrong

My old boss was a stockbroker, he made 200-400k a year, his wife made 400k a year, as they made more they leased nicer and nicer cars, had 2 kids, cleaners and nannys, boss drove to center of city instead of taking train etc. Always taking fancy holidays. End up with as much disposable income as me at end of the day.

Now imagine 600k a year but just living in a reasonable house, driving Mercedes or nice but not blowout cars, total expense 60-100k, then investing the 500k into apartment buildings every year. You would quickly replace your job income and have no need to work whilst growing more and more properties.

The goal is to do both, Increase income and minimise expenses, don't just save money in a bank but spend the extra on making more and more money until the snowball becomes big enough that you can afford to take bigger and bigger chunks out of it without stopping the snowball's growth.

I'm 26 and am on my second property, I will soon be able to just live off my income if I wanted, but instead I am also starting a company to earn more money to put into the machine, I haven't got a whole lot of cash in the bank as it all either goes into the business or property, but once it get's to a certain size, I will be able to afford to spend more on myself, and Then reinvest profits on aquiring other businesses or other properties and the cycle goes on. When you see rich elite families, they are basically just the result of doing this over a long period of time + luck of striking gold with 1 or 2 of the investments and luck of not losing their money on bad investments
