Still went for my libarts masters but every single doctoral student or professor you talk to about going into academia as a career tells you to stay the fuck away. Maybe academia just attracts miserable over educated weirdos, or maybe being the highest-grade teacher is just as shitty as being a middle school teacher. Who knows, at least I'm educated and not in debt. English is a good degree if you can sell yourself, you can get a good paying white collar job. You know how to analyze texts, write proficiently and clearly with tight structure, and you probably have good interpersonal skills and conversational ability with interesting contributions from talking to professor and reading so much. All sought after skills, you just need the connections to get you in the door at white collar positions lel.
