Yeah, but when you look at the fundamentals, nothing has changed. We have a debt to GDP level that we haven't had since WWII. We can't service this debt above zero percent. The Fed tried to raise rates and got to 2.5% before the market crashed in December 2018 and they had to reverse course. There is no hope for letting rates rise without crashing everything. That's what they should do, but it's the most politically unpalatable approach. The easier approach politically is to inflate the debt down to manageable levels and "default" in an indirect way through inflation. Politically, that works because by the time the effects are felt, the politicians have moved on. We fixed nothing after the last crisis.

The reason for the historical ratio is because of the ratio it was thought to come out of the ground. It now comes out of the ground at 10:1. On top of it, 70% of mined silver is consumed in manufacturing and essential for electronics. We're going a lot lower on the GSR.

The difference though is that silver is not used internationally for circulating currency, nor is it heavily used in photography. Also, lots of silver gets 'destroyed' after use, or ends up in garbage and landfills (mostly computer tech), whereas gold doesn't in the quantities. No, silver is less valuable than it ever was, so to expect a moonshot is simply ignoring the evidence in front of you.

>trade and barter
If you're in the US or Canada, then this is unrealistic. If you're in South America, Middle East, or Asia, then you need Gold to get out of the country when it collapses and to set up a new life somewhere safer.

The ultimate stack ratio would be all gold (bars, not coins), and perhaps 100 silver ounce coins.

the real (((you))) is you guys. How the fuck could silver be "historically overvalued" at 15:1 for..all of recorded history? Was JP Morgan's great, great, great ancestor somehow shorting the gold market by trading 500 stone tablets for every 1oz of real gold? If 12:1/17:1 was the ratio for the past 2000 years, that's not an overvaluing or an undervaluing- that's just the value, period.

The reason I didn't type this out the first time and just told everyone to ignore you is because you sound like some kind of anti silver shill. The ratio was average 115 in spring and has tanked continuously since then, to 70 now. It's not going to magically stop at [current value] just because you say so.

I'm not sure where you are, but there are laws where I live in which landlords can and will kick out people if they don't pay their rent. My tenants have paid theirs, but they're good people and I picked them carefully based on their credit history and jobs. But I know other owners in the same building who have kicked them out with the apartments staying empty. Such is life. Still, if you want actual value growth over the long term, the only mistake you can make in real estate is to buy in a shitty area that is 'diverse'.

You're completely right about the outlets like PMs or Crypto; it's like 'voting'. It gives the population the illusion of choice while actually restricting their choices to what the people in power want. That's why you want to get into positions of power. Real estate.

>>21716389
It's fine if you're in a good area/neighborhood. Do you Anons think all landlords buy in shit areas where crime is high, tenants destroy property, and vagrants walk in and sleep wherever they want like cows in a pasture? Be real. Middle-class folks need to pay rent like everyone else, especially in today's economy (prior to Covid). Furthermore, I can highly recommend areas near university campuses where students need a place for 4 years or less but can't buy. It's perfect for them and for you if you choose the tenant well.

>>21716509
Photography was the primary industrial use of silver for decades until film stock was eliminated. Now people harp on about 'solar panels', but that tech is useless in most parts of the world due to the actual amount of sunlight you can get annually. Silver getting 'destroyed' should already be a signal to you of how valued it truly is and why it'll never be precious the way that gold is.

Because silver as tied directly to gold in terms of value. Since it is no longer tied to gold directly, it's value can be honestly determined based on supply and demand. Thus.

Disagree. PMs are a store of wealth, not an investment. So you should store as much as you can in an little as you can (I wouldn't recommend platinum or palladium as no one bothers with it), and by mass it's gold.
Like other threads in /biz/, this one promises quick gains through miners. Then it promises 'safety' by encouraging people to buy PMs even if they don't have the money for it. Then it praises Anons for their 'wisdom' for buying PMs even when their at shit prices, because the 'costs average out in the long run'. It's bullshit.

If you like shiny things, just admit it. If you like feeling like a dragon over a hoard, just admit it. If you would rather buy PMs because you don't have the balls to save and invest digitally and you're afraid of spending the money in your account, just admit it. There's nothing wrong with any of this.

However, trying to come up with shitty justifications for your financial fears is pathetic. You want power? Buy real estate. You want more power? Get into politics.

Historical ratios of 15:1 existed because silver had additional utility as a medium of exchange.

Nowadays, IMHO, the role of PMs is to be a store of value and not to be used as a medium of exchange. Gold is objectively a better SoV than silver due to density, rarity, and lack of tarnishing. It makes sense that longterm the G:S will continue to get bigger, but there's plenty of room for it to make big swings due to speculation.

Yes, and furthermore the government would have to make it illegal to own gold privately and confiscate what is on the open market. Then they'd have to buy up the all the miners. Only after controlling the production and the amount in the public could they reintroduce a gold standard. That still wouldn't fix the problems, because the gold standard doesn't allow for the flexibility required by the open market for growth. It restricts growth and investment, and in times of financial duress, people hoard gold but as a product it doesn't produce anything, thus contracting the market further. Yeah, flexibility that is ALWAYS abused. The reason they wouldn't want a gold standard is because it's a hard check against wasteful government spending. All government spending has to be paid for by the people, whether it's taxes or sneakily through inflation. There's no accountability through inflation. Instead, government spending needs to be kept in check by forcing government to do so through taxation. That way the people get to immediately feel the effects of what government spends. The "inflexibility" is a good thing because it keeps governments from spending more than the nation produces and can fund with taxes. It's *you* who ignore history that currency debasement always ends poorly and is a sign of decline, not ascension. And fiat has an even worse history. Serious normalcy bias here. It all comes down to how people 'borrow' money from banks and lending institutions. Due to the current system, if you go for a loan, the bank gives you money and you promise to pay it back at some point in the future, along with interest. However, the bank does not actually have the full amount in their vault that they are giving you, they only have a fraction of it. So, they are creating money out of nothing and giving it to you, and you're using it to invest in whatever. If you pay back the bank loan with interest, then they make a profit of the interest. If you make money on your investment of the funds from your loan, you make profit too. But it's all done from money created out of a promise. Lenders do this for large corporations and governments as well. This allows people and companies to grow.

With restricted PMs, this money can't be created out of nothing. If the bank doesn't have the gold to support the loan, then it can't issue the loan. Growth stagnates, and the only way to increase the PMs of the country is to mine more or go to war and pillage another country. It's that simple.

Also, there are Anons who believe that the historical ratio of 15:1 (15 silver to every 1 gold) in value will return. This is a pipe dream, but it's their hope because for a time before Covid silver was around 100:1 or so, which meant that if you'd hoarded silver and the ratio dropped to 15:1, you'd have gained significantly in your holdings. So, the 'lottery' ticket is dangled in front of their eyes, but it's based on a different world.

They actually don't need to have any of it. The create funds. Richard Werner proved this empirically in 2014. Also even if reserves did matter, they don't any more because the Fed made the requirements 0%

printing money from nothing, increasing the money supply, is just debasing the currency. You could debase a gold backed currency just as easily by adjusting the ratio of dollars to oz of gold. Hell rome debased their metal coins just as easily as the US prints dollars.
If people were more aware of how such actions debase the currency they wouldn't allow it and you are right things would slow. Maybe that's a good thing.
Why is rapid progress of value over slower progress? Your whole argument rests on a set of propositions I reject.

Isn't it risky ordering from abroad? It has to go through border customs and I don't trust them with my metals. My main addresses are Theo and previously Kevelam but they increased their prices recently after they stopped majority of their sales. Reliable business nonetheless.
There's also a lot of scammers man, especially in Rotterdam, they have a knack for making money and metals dissappear and then opening new shops under a different name. Luckily I do research before making a deal. Lately I'm taking more risks with catawiki and marktplaats, but it's not very hard to see who's legit and who's trying to scam. Lot of good deals on the private market.

Yes, the flexibility is always abused. That's why the people in power want it to remain so. You forget however that the world is entirely different financially ever since PMs were no longer backing any currencies. We're in a new experiment, one never seen in the history of our planet. Why should it turn out the same when the conditions were different? Think about it. 'Fiats always collapse'. Yup. The question is: when? Can you answer that question? Will the USD collapse in 100 years? Probably not. Will the Euro collapse in 100 years? Quite probably, and likely by 2030 (conservative estimate).

>>21717815
Correct, but in Western countries there are legal requirements for banks to have a fraction (hence fractional lending). I think lending institutions that are private are the ones that don't need to have ANYTHING in order to lend money...lol
Incidentally, if you Anons are serious about all this, DEFINITELY check out Richard Werner...he's fucking awesome.

The issue is that the fiat systems can outcompete sound money over the short/medium term. It's like doing meth to clean your house faster, it works but you'll pay the price later.

It's entirely possible that the boom/bust life cycle of fiat currencies is a more effective mode of human society than sound money. Anyway, don't fight it, surf the kali yuga brother.

Sound money, isn't safe? Money you control isn't safe?
>even if they don't have the money for it.
Never, because you get raped on the spreads if you have to sell to cover your ass.
>Then it praises Anons for their 'wisdom' for buying PMs even when their at shit prices, because the 'costs average out in the long run'. It's bullshit.

Yes, but the whole point of a PM based currency is that the govt restricts debasing. That's the argument put forth by PM stackers who believe in a version of moral or ethical 'rightness' towards 'responsible spending'. Historical debasing of gold and silver happens of course, but everything takes longer (on the rise and the fall).

What you have to remember is that people are greedy, not because they're evil but because it's a biological instinct. If you're in the jungle, you want to have more food than others so you have a better chance of survival, and more food usually means you can have more mates and children. It's that simple; the instinct is there, but instead of a jungle we have stocks and bonds, thots and dogs. We haven't evolved, but we're using different means. Rapid progress is valued over slower progress for the profit margins. Why wait for 25 years to make a million dollars when you can make it in 2 years? When I was a kid, to be a 'millionaire' was actually a big thing, it was rare. Now it's the same only to be a 'billionaire'. That's how currency has inflated, but also how the income gap has widened.

It changes on a daily basis. Here's the thing to remember: the GS ratio only matters if you are going to convert silver to gold. If you don't, then it's as interesting as the current prices of fowl at a medieval market.
