Once you understand premium and time decay.
You can make plays with less money than you need to buy stock.

Guy in the picture is going to make money is the stock is above break even by the expiration date.
So he wil make money even if the stock goes back down under 2000. Which mean that is the price didn't move, he would profit anyway.
But if the stock goes under 1850, he will lose alot more than just owning the stock.

You can't do that with buying shares.

Options also allow you to react to moves. Where as with shares, you are buying with high risk after a pump, with options you can make money out of the volatility and make plays on the voltatility or the decrease in volatility.

e.g. KODK pumped pre market from 2.5$ to 12$.
I sold a 5$ put for 70$ betting that even if the stock corrected, it would not go bellow 5$.
The stock indeed corrected, down to 7.5$ before close. But it mooned the day after to 60$, throughout all that, I was in the money. No worries, small risk, because only had 430$ max loss in case stock went to 0.

Yes. Options are complicated but they allow for a bigger range of plays.

fundamentals always wins in the end, but i didn't expect it to revert back so fast. Frankly $75 is definitely closer to fair value for TSM when their capacity is already fully booked until mid 2021 anyways (not a lot of upside left in the short-term).

so what the fuck was the dip on TSM all about?
doesn't make sense to me. Am I to assume that people in the general market panicked with overall market movements? Then after market closed they suddenly remember that big tech companies are desperate for TSM's limited capacity so even if TSM loses a customer it would instantly get filled up by someone else (like what happened when they lost Huawei).
shit like this is why i don't bother to put trailing stops on long-term picks I'm confident in. Just have a price target and forget about it for a couple years.

pharmaceuticals are a crapshoot with the massive money pits that drug development can be. The statistics on how many shit fails through clinical trials should be terrifying for you if you're holding pharmaceuticals long-term. If covid wasn't a thing, you should stay away from pharmaceuticals entirely unless you have insider information or you're basically just playing the lottery (also a lottery with covid, just with better odds).

like for every drug that gets approved, look into how many other drugs failed in clinical trials or never got past preclinical in the first place. Generic pharmaceuticals are safer but they've been stagnating too (e.g. Taro) since there are fewer and fewer breakthrough drugs being developed over time. I'm sure next big thing with pharmaceuticals will be biologics, generic or not, but good luck on finding a pick.

Virus only determines if oil gets slaped down again. You are actually pretty much seeing oil's recovery right now. OPEC member states literally cease to exist without POOMPING oil for even a few months since so much of their government and societal infrastructure is tied up in oil revenue.
That entire industry self inflicted a lot of this damage even before the possibility of a secular decline in overall oil demand within the next few years or decades. The oil futures tell the story that already factors in PENT UP DEMAND memes.
As long as credit is stupid easy and companies with low capex can get away for a decade or more without being solvent (Uber, Tesla, Instagram, Slack, etc.), the best growth in terms of margin and reach will be Tech. To best against Tech is to bet against the Fed's program of POOMPING easy credit into the market.

There's currently over $100b in leveraged etfs with a 2.5x avg. leverage. And that's just the ones I managed to tally, there's a lot of dogshit small ones on top of that. TQQQ alone is now at almost $6b in AUM (topped in Fed at a little over $7b). Now, let's try to estimate what happens to TQQQ's AUM when BRRR = 1.0257. 3XBRRR = 1.0771. Take it at 3XBRRR = 1.07 to account for slippage in a medium-volatility environment and ignore the fact that the Nasdaq-100 would go up more than SPX anyway.

>$6,000,000,000 * (1.07^4) = $7,864,776,060
>$6,000,000,000 * (1.07^8) = $10,309,100,000
>$6,000,000,000 * (1.07^12)=$13,513,100,000
>$6,000,000,000 * (1.07^28) = 9,893,000,000.

>This makes no sense, how the fuck am I seeing a recovery right now, oil stocks are at the lowest since the March dip.
Oil is cyclical, with some of the biggest boom and bust cycles of any industry. There is tremendous momentum that requires years to swing from one to the other. And all of this below super cycles for it. Oil got slammed because of simultaneous demand shock (from the virus) and supply shock (from the price war). Restrictions have been lifted or greatly reduced in much of the world and that caused the 400% increase in oil futures from March to May with a smaller shift in oil companies.
Oil doesn't have "price memory". It feeds off of demand and margins from the overall economy. But those shocks also inflicted pain that is going to take a long time for consolidations, mergers, acquisitions, etc. to take place simply because of how overleveraged they were. Only recently did they actually begin writing down their debt based on the price of oil
>If governments are as dependant on oil as you say, then there's also incentive for oil recovery
They CAN'T stop pumping long enough to cause the oil price to spike because of the large oil reserves everywhere. Oil at ~40-50 is not enough for much of the industry to remain solvent and so they are both crippled but kept barely alive. This just delays the actual bust recovery it needs. This was a once in a generation dumb move on the oil industries part and facing headwinds that might seriously and PERMANENTLY cut back on oil demand.
>but once those are through you can bet oil stocks will be shooting through the roof trying to meet the demand
Not for a long time. Midwit boomer oil meme holders are the boomer equivalent of zoomer airline holders.
You should be playing oil futures until ~$60-80, then big oil companies months later, then smaller oil companies if its higher, then speculative oil ventures (shale) if its still higher.

Dividends are usually reserved for companies that have peaked and are growing slow and are getting so much revenue they don't know what to do with it except pay shareholders.
If you are looking for high dividends then go for REITs. They way they are legally structured they have to pay out 90% of profit to shareholders.
However, dividends are dumb and don't waste your time unless you already have 6 figures + to put into them.

yesterday was the dip bro. Dip didn't make sense and it was just moving with the overall Asian market despite the fact that TSM wouldn't be hurt by fluctuating demand when they're fully booked and big tech companies (AMD and NVDA to name a few, never mind AAPL and even INTC recently) all compete for their limited capacity. Q3 will be interesting once we find out how much INTC is paying to suddenly get a huge order comparable to AMD's. Note that TSM is not interested in potentially short-term deals with INTC so either they INTC commits to long-term with them for whatever new product lineups they pump out, or INTC paid out the ass to get that capacity.

it's more that i think AAPL will keep going up in share price, so the divvy is a nice bit of gravy. it's just that a divvy is nice if im gonna be holding for over a decade. im still a bit iffy on the long term hold thing, it worries me because who the fuck knows what catastrophes could happen in such a long period of time you know what i mean? but i know this forward split at least would be free money and now im thinking of just holding it long term now because why not, everyone knows apple and wants to own it. i guess i'd just keep up on the news with it and see if there ever comes a point where they don't want to own it. idk if i should bother trying to sell and then buy dips over and over either or if i should just hold it forever.

> you really think TSLA is going to just keep going up over the next decade?
Yes, but it will have selloffs because lots of dopamine-depraved zoomers are now in. Buy the dips but never sell your shares in the red. As it goes over the next 5 years, paper hands will be shaken off and mostly iron hands will hold TSLA, plus they have a Cult Following already.
If I was 25y old again and I had like $30,000 of savings and no debt, I'd go all in on AAPL and TSLA.
I predict the future where the stock market is full of mediocre $10 - $100 per share companies and like 5 or 6 titans that are $10,000 a share. Amazon, Apple and Tesla are a safe bet. Apple would cost a fortune right now if not for the fact that they've splitted 7-1 and 2-1 before. Now 4-1, you can see where this is going.

Or like
35% TQQQ

20% TSLA
5% AMZN
5% AAPL

You can adjust/swap as needed.

>how long will the tech boom last?
Around the mid 2000s were entered a new paradigm where the more technical advanced a business was the more of a competitive advantage it had.
As time went on the amount of tech needed to run a business increased as did tech for leisure activities and basically just everything in life.
Around the last 5 years is when people really started to realize this.
Think of it like this. In the gold rush era you could either mine gold or sell shovels. Technology is to business as shovels are to gold mining. Fuck investing directly in new or existing businesses just invest in the tech they use to stay relevant.
Corona virus really made everyone realize that there is no point in investing in these blue chip companies anymore. What you'll see is more and more people divesting out of companies like coca cola and 3m and into companies like apple and tesla.

How many shares did you own? If you would have held, you would have 1/10 of that now. The amount of money invested would not change, the number of shares you own change. The simplist way I can think of explaining it besides that is the company decided to do deflation, burning stocks to raise the value of each share. The opposite of inflation, which would be raising the number of stocks it has to devalue the price of each share. Hope this helps.

i don't really agree with dealing with leveraged ETF's but this actually sounds like a pretty good point/metaphor. the main reason why i like AMD so much for example is because the new console generation (xbox and playstation) are using AMD chips. it's another guaranteed free money machine.
