As someone who currently lives in CT I would caution anyone who chooses to move there.
You have to look really closely at the neighborhoods you want to move to because you get investment bankers in palatial estates living a couple of miles away from illegal immigrants squatting in homes which probably should have been condemned back in the 90s. There are some truly fantastic neighborhoods in CT but you have to do your research.

Plus, the real estate market was fairly competitive even before all the Manhattanites decided to move here so good deals rarely last.

Doesn't matter if you live in a penthouse (of which my friend does and we hang there sometimes; it's nice), you still have to share the sidewalks, stores, restaurants, parks, etc. with the thousands of crazies and poors, there's garbage everywhere, and it's loud nearly everywhere. Greenwich, New Canaan, and Darien are ok. Stamford has some not-so-great areas and downtown is very meh. Weather is garbage and taxes are high. Go to Florida (there are nice places) because you pay no state tax, stuff is pretty cheap compared to the NE, and if you live in the norther part, the weather is pretty decent year round. Also, your property is 100% protected in the event of a lawsuit...cannot be forclosed upon, which is why people like OJ Simpson and a lot of hedge fund guys buy homes there, because you can park assets without worrying that someone is going to sue you and take it.
