if i can focus my strategy on just being intraday it shouldn't be too bad. most of the spazzy shit happens outside of regular market hours.

the /ES on the other hand looks a lot more stable even with news, especially if i took a long bias. i don't trade it yet but i look at it a lot and could make a lot of money from it (with more risk of course) if i strategically scaled into the dips. just gotta be ever mindful of the next happening so i can cut my losses as quickly as possible but that's rare and probably obvious by the market dropping much harder than usual. like we knew about covid for at least a month or two before it went crazy. but i guess you'd just hope that you'd make enough from the 99% of the time things are normal so the 1% you get fucked isn't so bad.

Apple is safer and has a proven record with splits. 2014 the split was 1:7 with the stock at 600 per pre split. Post it was under 100. Fast forward 6 years and here we are split time once again, this time with the stock at upper 400's. History and greed tells us that it won't stay at 112-120 for long post split on 8-31. The only wrinkle is the virus; it may help speed up the rebound. If the virus turns real nasty this fall/winter and more investors flee into tech again well that only helps the apple stock regain it's 300+ price sooner.

The sketchy one was super high premarket, dumped at open super hard, pumped up soon thereafter and by eod dumped straight back to morning levels....it's really close to my credit spread. Should've listened to myself on that one and not ignored my instinct.

So if it doesnt matter then what is this fomo shit? Tesla website says that you will get the dividend of splitted shares if you have any after the market closes on 21 August. The split happens a week after that. So logically, what will happen if I buy the shares on Thursday, they can’t resuce it’s value but you keep one, it has to be split like all the others. What is the point of that information then? Just double-checked on Google “Tesla Record Date” and it’s there. Can someone explain to a tired brainlet?

>PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 11, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tesla, Inc. (“Tesla”) announced today that the Board of Directors has approved and declared a five-for-one split of Tesla’s common stock in the form of a stock dividend to make stock ownership more accessible to employees and investors. Each stockholder of record on August 21, 2020 will receive a dividend of four additional shares of common stock for each then-held share, to be distributed after close of trading on August 28, 2020. Trading will begin on a stock split-adjusted basis on August 31, 2020.

Shareholders on the date of record receive a few extra shares in the deal. If you buy between date of record and first trading date of new split price you're not getting screwed over, you just miss the small amount of extra bonus shares. Investopedia article has an example about this from a previous Apple split:
>In June 2014, Apple Inc. split its shares 7-for-1 to make it more accessible to a larger number of investors.1 Right before the split, each share's opening price was approximately $649.88. After the split, the price per share at market open was $92.70, which is 648.90 ÷ 7.2 Existing shareholders were also given six additional shares for each share owned, so an investor who owned 1,000 shares of AAPL pre-split would have 7,000 shares post-split. Apple's outstanding shares increased from 861 million to 6 billion shares, however, the market cap remained largely unchanged at $556 billion. The day after the stock split, the price had increased to a high of $95.05 to reflect the increased demand from the lower stock price.2

Sorry. I worded that in a confusing way. To be clear, there is no premium for holding the stock on the date of record for a stock split. If you hold Tesla shares prior to opening bell on the date of split-adjusted share price trading, your holding will be automatically adjusted to the ratio of the split. You do not have to rush out to buy more before date of record. You can buy day before the actual split and result is largely the same. Things get a bit complicated when it comes to rounding out the fraction created by the split. Article below talks about how that fraction can be dealt with, as well as what is happening on the broker side with shares traded between date of record and date of split adjusted trading:

As harsh as it sounds. Majority of people don't matter to the trend of the stock market. It will only correct itself (or "crash") again when something breaks, something unexpected.

If it dipped 5-10%, as normal we will all just buy more and it go back up, endlessly.

The lowest income groups don't matter to the economy as much as the news likes people to think.

An investment plan should follow good companies, not good politics/noise.

no upside to TSM for awhile until contracts end and capacity expands. They're fully booked until mid 2021, doesn't matter how much good news it gets until they have a chance to make new contracts with higher prices. TSM should only be 25 to 50% of your portfolio at most. Put the rest of the money in QQQ/SOXX or whatever otehr ETF.

a whole fucking wafer, that just shows how fucking amazing TSM's yields are on their 7nm process that they can make this possible. Even if you argue that there are redundancies in the design so (a very miniscule amount of) imperfections won't render the whole thing useless, it is pretty damn impressive.

fuck I can't wait for samsung to announce it can't make volume production or whatever other issues with their 3 nm. They're already having so much issues with majing 5 nm work, and they think they can skip to 3 nm.

TSM is also good, but they are a fabricator. They don't invent new architecture, they make what others design. They are good but less potential because they have smaller profit margins. Nvidia orders fabrications from whoever they want, so they could stop using TSM if they can't make what they need.
Intel is both a CPU designer and fabricator, thats why they are a bit of both but not the best of either. But vertical integration allowed them special flexibility that let them corner the market. But yeh, back to topic. The stock market doesn't always follow the economic logic (for better or worse, clown).

Nobody knows where we are headed, but I'd not put my stake in the ground thats its sure fire down or sure fire up. It does make sense that a correction is due very soon though, that could turn into a full rout. Think FEDs will step as always, but if they dont, now that will catch investors off gaurd. Samsung has serious yield issues right now. The 3 nm they're hoping to skip to will still have similar density as TSM's 5 nm (which mind you is already at volume production, more to come in 2023 with the Arizona plant). Similarly, TSM's 7nm is better than Samsung's 7nm due to transistor density. Last I read, Nvidia was likely going to use the samsung shit for their lower-end products.

For sure man,

Majority of people will end being forced to rent as property valuations continue to rocket.

It feels like the majority of my peers don't really save, investing unheard of. Again from my low income class background it isn't surprising.

The only time they save is to buy a new car, or a new this, new that.

I don't get it, why don't you save to buy your freedom.

Not really sure where I'd put the money if I sold TSM and even if fundamental upside is further down the road there still could me massive pumps ahead due to sentiment boosts, P/E is still pretty low

>> No.21650728

don't put that much value into P/E, they don't mean shit in an industry that grows much faster than traditional industries. TSM is solid but their PE ratio is low precisely because upside is smaller (foundries take years to build). You'd be missing out on a lot if you focused on TSM too much over other shit because of some fallacious value picking mentality.

AMD may be a bit overly speculated right now, but it's still a solid company (albeit the stock price itself is very volatile relative to other big tech). Keep in mind that everything in tech is pretty much forecasted for the next 3-5 years, things don't happen overnight, so you can really tell a lot about a company just based on their roadmap and CEO. AMD is set to dominate over Intel for the next few years with the server market share.

desu i don't hold AMD though. I don't wanna speculate too hard on who's going to win in the end (Intel could still have a chance if they designed decent product lines up the TSM capacity they snatched). My portfolio is more like 50% TSM and 50% QQQ (well, the TSE's versions of QQQ at least so i don't have to do norbert's gambit or pay an exchange rate fee every time). I was considering SOXX or BAKA too but TSM is the only one I'm really confident in so I rather not touch everything else in it (especially not Intel), and again my wages are in maple dollars.

no idea what the fuck Intel is doing not moving to EUVL immediately though, i thought they ordered some from ASML already. Them sticking to immersion lithography is what made them fall behind so far behind Samsung and TSM.

im going to guess Google, Apple. and whatever other tech companies poached too many decent engineers from intel. Seems like intel's problems arise entirely from leadership. They have money and connections to compete otherwise.
