The research. What they did.

Researchers looked at the activity of brain cells in the PFC of anxious rats while those rats were encouraged to make a decision about which behaviour would get them a sweet reward. Rats share many physiological and biological similarities to humans which is why they are often used in these sort of studies. The researchers compared the behaviour and brain activity of two groups of rats – one that received a placebo and one that received a low dose of a drug that induced anxiety. Both groups of rats were able to make sound decisions, but the anxious rats made a lot more mistakes when there were more distractions in their way.

How Anxiety Interferes. What the research means.

Anxiety rolls good decision-making by reducing the brain’s capacity to screen out distractions. Distractions can be physical, as in things in the environment, or they can take the form of thoughts and worries. Anxiety interrupts the brain’s capacity to ignore these distractions by numbing a group of neurons in the pre-frontal cortex that are specifically involved in making choices.

‘We have had a simplistic approach to studying and treating anxiety. We have equated it with fear and have mostly assumed that it over-engages entire brain circuits. But this study shows that anxiety disengages brain cells in a highly specialized manner.’

The wheel also includes red numbers and a single green number, which makes the black numbers engulf almost half of the entire wheel, a duopoly. Each pair of black numbers surrounds a single red number, giving it control of the entire wheel. It also has one number next to the green number for added control of the green minority. Black numbers include but are not limited to: 2, 5, 17, and 23, all of which are prime numbers which cannot be divided by any number other than 1 and itself. To date, bets on black have won almost half of the time, giving realized profits of roughly 50%.

but if you have cappy gains+losses on the same asset in a short time period, you get whacked bigly with the wash sale rule, which really sucks and you have to pay more taxes than you would otherwise.

now imagine if instead the stock price went down to $12 or something. Instead of selling the shares at for $1200, you can use the contract (total cost to you of $3800) to sell them at $4000 for a $200 profit in the end.

you make it sound like REITs are a shitty price memory gamble like airliners. Price memory "DD" is so retarded lol

They're a good investment in the sense that they look to be oversold. Priced at recession levels when conditions are not actually at recession levels (yet? or overreaction?). *AND* unlike airliners or even overleveraged REITs, some of the REITs are still ahead of their interest payments and their tenants aren't actually bankrupt like the recession. Rent collection still up for like 99% of industrial/office. Heck, even retail space rent collection still in the 70%-85% range during lockdown quarterly.

will it outperform tech though? Probably not, but probably not a good idea to be so overexposed to tech either.

You have to do your DD on each individual REIT. Triple net lease commercial REITs are most likely to continue their recovery and not have missed rent payments. Find one that has a lot of cash reserves, a below industry average dividend payout ratio, and hasn't cut divvies during rona.

>will it out perform tech
No way of knowing but you never have to sell your shares if you use DRIP and real estate and tech don't have a correlation which is good for a healthy portfolio.
I am long term bullish on tech but that doesn't mean we can't have exposure to other industries like real estate, banking, and even PMs.
When people say 'there's nothing to buy right now' I'm just like bro triple net REITs like STOR and O. There's a couple IPOs coming out soon too but I never touch an IPO.

>You have to do your DD on each individual REIT.
i mean you might as well buy an ETF for REITs if you're gonna do that.
I did my DD on the one that's localized in my area (REI.UN in Toronto) so not only do I know the actual sentiment in the area, and their statistics (86.8% rent collection on commercial real estate during Q2) and the fact that they don't have to cut dividends (like ~80% payout ratio ignoring the written loss in value of unused real estate or something), i can definitely put my money in it confidently.

is it going to outperform other canadian REITs like HR.UN or BPY? I have no idea, but I'm confident enough not to lose money in REI.UN in the long run. I got the rest of my money in tech.

frankly this real estate pick has not outperformed my tech portion so far. But I'm also hesitant to be overexposed to tech so it's ok. this clown market has made me think 20% (includes profit taking + catching falling knife) in a few months from REITs are weak gains now, isn't that crazy.

This sounds like a very solid way to lose money. Bears are important for the market ecosystem, but being bearish is significantly harder than being bullish. Market as a whole, the bulls are right 90% of the time.
If you have to be a bear, try doing it within a sector first: pick a company you expect to outperform the sector and one you expect to underperform - long the former and short the latter. That way, you're insulated from the overall trend in the sector, and are just betting on the difference between the two.

You can throw darts at a list of S&P 500 stocks and the chances are that you'll return 8% annually on average, this is why it's much different than a casino where the chances are that you lose money on any game. Stocks are the opposite of a casino for individual traders and investors.

I will admit that vegetarian meat works really well on white meat shit that you also expect to be highly seasoned though. I tried some vegetarian "chicken" nuggets. Easier to replicate the texture of white meat, and the outside was coated with some spicy seasoning stuff so it was indistinguishable to spicy chicken nuggets.

red meat though? Lab-grown meat with actual animal cells would still be the best option for "vegetarian" though i guess most vegetarians would still be against that.

Lab-grown meat will almost universally be considered better than any meat substitute but the problem is that it's always five years away from hitting store shelves. Certain companies claim to have a $10 lab-grown burger but I think they're having trouble commercially scaling it. I believe Beyond Meat will paint themselves into a corner when it does get here because they can't switch to it without losing the militant vegan crowd that makes up a lot of their customers and their revenue doesn't justify their market cap. Consumers probably don't care what brand their fake meat is and Beyond has no real moat against competitors to my knowledge.

So, commercial real estate is imploding and I'm guessing they are going to do their nasty RE thing and dump those properties and do 1031 like-kind exchanges to evade taxation and snap up rental properties leading to huge home price increases everywhere while downtown metros, strip malls, and brick & mortar main streets become no-go urban decay zones. Rents will skyrocket as the government prints more money in a transparent pass-through payment scheme to banks, bondholders, and property managers. A cabinet level Department of Home-owner Securitization will be created and Uncle Sam will become mortgage and rent-payer in chief as everyone goes broke and homeless. Thoughts?

what? they're booming around my area. People so pent up by lockdown. Death of retail is overblown.
Also even Shopify is still keeping their office real estate in Toronto and keeping their right to expand to more despite whatever previous statements they had about working from home. Companies realize by now it's not feasible to have the majority of your workforce working from home, a lot of productivity and communication issues. That's not to say WFH was a failure or anything, but the lazy people are definitely ruining it for everyone else who love WFH.

my work already asking for volunteers on who wants to go back to the office for weeks. Dunno what the fuck's going to happen, no one wants to volunteer obviously, and no one is blind to the productivity issue (lazy fucks really ruining it for everyone else, and im assuming it's an HR nightmare to single out these people and tell them they have to work in a supervised office while everyone else still works from home).

The sciences in the US are still reeling from the "great curtailment" of 2008 that has still never recovered. It has shifted entire disciplines into having to basically be focused on being future business startups that will likely fail. And it also rewards salesmanship over science.
It is partly where a lot of (misguided) support for Elon Musk comes from. Disaffected STEM students that now have to work as data scientists because there isn't much room for science without profit incentives any more. To make science relevant to the public again.

By my calculations, AUY seems to be fairly valued. Reserves (proven+probable), excluding the Agua Rica property that they're still building up, are:

> 7.9 Moz gold
> 63.8 Moz silver
> ~8.5M GEO (gold equivalent oz) overall at Q1 gold/silver ratio

Their AISC per metal is a bit hard to pin down since they have both gold and silver, but assuming a conservative (to PM bulls) case of $1800 gold, and with their quoted AISC per GEO of ~$1000, that would be $800 profit per GEO extracted, giving a total value of their active mines of $6.8B. Furthermore, they have ~$1B debt, so ~$5.8B is the total potential value of the company at $1800 gold. This is close to their market cap of $5.6B.

To me, what this means is - if you think gold price will maintain or exceed current levels for a prolonged period of time (not one-off spikes), AUY could be a good way to participate in that increase. However, I am not a mining industry expert, so there's a lot of variables I might be missing. At least one risk I can think of is that AUY operates in some emerging market South American countries that don't guarantee stability in the way e.g. Canada or Australia might. Also, they were affected by COVID shutdowns last quarter, so short-term profits might be lower than expected.

divvy stocks are shitty, but if there's ever been a time for value picking to be decent, it's now.
i'm not talking about airliners obviously, but there have been massive "boomer" divvy picks in the past few months where the fear was overblown. Even if you missed the massive March dip, there have been picks like FedEx and Ovintiv basically that gave almost +100% returns from around May. REITs are next, though obviously don't pick a REIT that's over-leveraged and mismanaged. People overreacted and thought it was going to be like 08-09 even though conditions are different.
