Looking for some help from my /biz/ bros and perhaps prevent this from happening to someone else.

My friend just got everything drained from his Metamask wallet. Logged in today and saw all his balances were 0, checked etherscan and saw 10 outgoing transactions from early this morning. About 25 ETH worth of tokens gone.

My question is how did this happen? Literally can't figure it out. I watched him create the metamask wallet myself so I'm sure it wasn't a scam wallet. They couldn't have stolen the seed phrase because the password wasn't changed.

Key logged? Remote access? Phished? He used Uniswap to buy tokens so not sure if it could be related to that. Can't find too many people with similar experiences so hoping someone has an idea of what happened. I'm shook and don't want the same fate.

you stole it from your friend, and you are going to show this thread to your friend as evidence that the theft was "inexplicable"

Bump for BRAPSSSSS

Did he write down the seed phrase by hand or store it somewhere on his computer?

Did he download a fake version of Metamask?

There are a lot of fake Uniswaps out there. If he googled it and clicked on a scam version in an add then that could be it. I believe he would have to give the fake Uniswap more information then it should need though.

Could of course be phishing or a keylogger. This is why you need a hardware wallet for significant holdings. Even if you computer is infected, with a hardware wallet you still need to physically accept any transaction by hitting a button on the wallet.

There was a fake uniswap app on the front page of google. Ask your friend if he ever typed his seed phrase into it.

sqlite injection due to chainlink being downgraded to erc10 which means only half of the token security is implemented in the source code on github repos, it's a known trick hackers have been using lately and not even air gapped ledger wallets are safe from it

With Metamask, if you restore your wallet with a seed phrase, it forces you to change the password.
