Today Direxion announced a new leveraged ETF to add to its offerings - SMGS. Revealed to be a 3x inverse leveraged fund, SMGS is controversial in that the holdings it tracks are determined dynamically by retail investors on minor trading websites including the infamous 4chan.

Representatives from Direxion have repeatedly affirmed that their decision is sound, one claiming that "4chan has never made a good trade - by our calculations and backtesting, SMGS should be among our most competitive funds even for those looking for a long-term portfolio staple." Exact information about the expense ratio of the fund is unknown at this point but it is projected to be around 1%. When asked about the exact holdings at this point in time, Direxion asserted that "the holdings are the most random shit: oil tankers, semiconductors, small biotech companies, near-bankrupt retailers, natural gas companies, assorted penny stocks, air and cruise lines, microcap precious metal miners, Raytheon, and blue chip dividend stocks." The ETF will officially begin trading on exchanges starting Monday, August 26th.

Someone please help!!!!!!. I know nothing about options. But say I went down a rabbit hole and I believe it revealed a MAJOR catalyst for a stock to go up and I have an idea of the latest possible date. And that day is October 31st. It could be earlier though. A what is the most profitable option play on this....just buy the lowest calls or like mid range. And b. There aren't options for October 31st it jumps from October 16th to January. I'm willing to risk it will happen by October 16th though. Also I own over 100 shares. Is there an option I could write that would make me insane money? Thank you so much. Also I'm a poorfag that's why I don't wanna buy the stocks and maximize my 2k account and a wageslave so I don't have time to learn on my own what to do for this situation

Provided the volatility (day to day price movements) is low now, you'd be better off with buying an Out of the Money (OTM) january call. Or a spread i.e. a bunch of OTM january calls with different strikes.
Deeper OTM calls have lower premiums but require immense volatility and price swings to move (they also need to be sold probably when the catalyst is announced to prevent volatility or time decay from hosing you). They also have the highest returns. Lower strikes will have less returns but require less price/volatility shifts to give you returns at all. The premiums you have to pay will also be higher.
So OTM calls in january. Higher strikes mean greater returns but you need an absolutely massive catalyst for payoffs that NOONE else is currently able to see or forecast at the moment. Things bordering on insider trading. It is what the CEO of KODK did recently to make obscene money from that huge spike. As the strike is lower than the catalyst doesn't have to be quite as massive but the returns will be lower because the premiums will be higher.
Sell all deep OTM calls the day the catalyst is announced, probably in mid-day. Sell all shallower calls when they get in the money (ITM). You can also sell them a little later if the catalyst gives sustained upward buying pressure.

Ah my bad.
Then again he could still just basically sell his own shares and buy them again so the difference is non existent
But to keep it easy then just write a call option. Not sure if you're American or European because American options can be exercised at any time and European options can only be exercised at the date of expiry which would allow you to reign in more premiums if you're in Europe

Not sure you understand how dividends work but unless you have an already substantial amount of money they are basically useless and will get outpaced by growth stocks.
