I don't understand either. How are gas prices determined? It's not just due to eth having increased its value, since it's done roughly a 2x over the last 1-2 months but gas prices are far higher than just a 1-2x from before

ethereum can only process so many transaction per second, and that processing has a cost that go to the miners.
When the network gets congested bc everyone is trading and "farming" the price of having your transaction go through increases.
This problem will only get worse as defi becomes more popular and ETH 2.0 gets delayed
