I still would never trust it. I would never consider myself retired until at least 70% of my wealth is covered by FDIC. I will probably keep a big chunk in DeFi until the day I die, but when I retire I don't want to worry about some cataclysmic market crash dragging my ass back to my wagie cage.
That's why 3m is a nice number for me.
Uncle Sam takes 600k in long term capital gains, I buy a house for 400k, put 500k into DeFi with DAI, and keep the other 1.5m across a couple banks in savings accounts and a few CDs.

Completely false. It covers 250k per person per account type per institution.
An institution can cover up to 1m for a person if it is split between checking, savings, CDs, and money markets.
Then another institution can cover just as much. You generally don't want to keep as much in checking though as that's not interest bearing, but dont be a retard that is constantly transferring from savings to checking online or at an ATM otherwise Reg D will force the institution to close your account, and eventually other institutions won't allow you to open interest bearing accounts either.

I want triple financial independent. I feel that's going from independent to financially secure. Should one fail there's two backups. Should all three fail it can be liquidated and I'd still have made it. I'm living pretty well on 90k/yr and keeping about a 50% saving rate. So I use that as my baseline. Three sources each bringing in 90k/yr through steaking or conservative withdrawals or whatever. The problem is I don't rebalance so I ended up something like 90% chainlink, 4% another shitcoin, and a nice collection of scams, and some ETFs. If I got 10% I have secured making it once over. I continue to work and invest, funneling rewards into other things except for my dividends which stay in the ETFs.
With crypto seeing more adoption I may move away from the dollar for the most part. Stablecoins are easier to track for tax purposes and can be used with a crypto card. For big purchases I either find someone willing to accept payment this way or use an escrow service that will facilitate end payment in fiat. The world is changing fast so hopefully my waterfowl are correctly aligned.
10 acre homestead, downtown penthouse, and a steady passive income and I'm living the dream. I'm going to play mad scientist in my lab tinkering the rest of my life. I might even upgrade some of my toys but they have such sentimental value I might just keep them. It's not like a new thing works any differently than a new, at least when it comes to tools. I put my soul into my work and I like the grounding feeling I get from using things from my past.

why not use 1 million to start up a company? That way you can still pursue what you want to, and have the necessary funding to make sure that it's either stable and/or successful?

Comes with the added bonus of making even more money and having a purpose

Total savings doesn't matter as much as being able to spend 100k/yr. If I were to retire today with that requirement, that would take around 3mil strictly in savings/investments (not including house/car/Pokemon card collection/etc).

Only the South Part and the countryside of Sao Paolo are good places to live. $150K is almost 820K Brazilian bucks! Food here is cheap, the only problem is the fucking burocracy and random taxes - that you can avoid if you are smart enough.
