don't worry. LINK is a utility token that companies can use to verify information with it's customers/clients/whatever. These are called smart contracts. This provides a decentralized way of verifying information, which is way safer than the centralized alternative. Do do this, there needs to be people holding LINK to operate the nodes. In exchange for this, node operators will earn LINK as an intensive i.e staking.

When staking is operational, not only will less people want to sell their LINK, but more people will want to buy LINK to earn a passive income. I believe they also plan to gradually burn 50% of the circulating supply once staking is operational, once again driving up the price.

The beauty behind this system is that the companies that need the information verified will actually have to purchase the LINK to reward, so the price shouldn't inflate.

Serious data leaks have penalties of 4% annual profits, so large companies will pay to avoid this and their best bet right now is chainlink.
