Pt.2

As a percentage of national income, corporate profits after taxes never exceeded 9 percent and was often below 6 percent over a thirty-year period ending in 1998. However, it is not just the numerical rate of profit that most people misconceive. Many misconceive its whole role in a pricecoordinated economy, which is to serve as incentives-and it plays that role wherever its fluctuations take it. Moreover, some people have no idea that there are vast differences between profits on sale and profits on investments.

Profits on sales are very different from profits on investment. If a store buys widgets for $10 each and sells them for $15 each, some might say that it makes $5 in profits on each widget. But, of course, the store has to pay the people who work there, the utility company that supplies the electricity for the lights, cash registers and other electrical devices in the store, as well as other suppliers of other goods and services needed to keep the store running. What is left over after all these people have been paid is the net profit, usually a lot less than the gross profit. But that is still not the same as profit on investment. When someone invests $10,000, what that person wants to know is what annual rate of return it will bring, whether it is invested in stores, real estate, or stocks and bonds. Profits on particular sales are not what matter most. It is the profit on the total capital that has been invested in the business that matters.

Pt.3

Things can be sold at prices that are much higher than what the seller paid for them and yet, if those items sit in the store for months before being sold, they may be less profitable than other items that have less of a markup but which sell out within a week. A store that sells pianos undoubtedly makes a higher percentage profit on each sale than a supermarket makes selling bread. But a piano sits in the store for a much longer time waiting to be sold than a loaf of bread does. Bread would go stale waiting for as long as a piano to be sold. When a supermarket chain buys $10,000 worth of bread, it gets its money back much faster than when a piano dealer buys $10,000 worth of pianos. The piano dealer must charge a higher percentage mark-up on the sale of each piano than a supermarket charges on each loaf of bread, if the piano dealer is to make the same annual percentage rate of return on a $10,000 investment. When the supermarket gets its money back in a shorter period of time, it can turn right around and re-invest it, buying more bread or other grocery items. In the course of a year, the same money turns over many times in a supermarket, earning a profit each time, so that a penny of profit on the dollar can produce a total profit for the year on the initial investment equal to what a piano dealer makes charging a much higher percentage markup on an investment that turns over much more slowly.

That apple phones are priced so highly does not mean that pricier items cause higher rates of return on your investment than items that cost less. Apple is not fully engaging in volitional pricing, if so then they could charge millions on their phones. When companies sell products for less than its competition it will gain customers and consequently have higher rates of return, in a price oriented society. You can offset the costs by having cheaper labor costs, transportation costs, by shipping larger amounts to one central place(amazon,wal-mart), or letting services being partly operated by customers themselves. All of these things will result in higher profits and ofc higher returns for investors which will then attract more investors, because people have it in their best interest to make a profit.

>While Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (whose close friend and fellow activist Cori Bush just upset a longtime incumbent in a Missouri Congressional primary earlier this week) pushes for a 'first-in-the- nation' wealth tax that most reasonable people fear would destroy the state's tax base by driving the billionaires and multimillionaires who finance more than half of the state's budget to leave, NY Gov Andrew Cuomo is begging rich people to "please come back" to NYC.
>"I literally talk to people all day long who are now in their Hamptons house who also lived here, or in their Hudson Valley house, or in their Connecticut weekend house, and I say, ‘You got to come back! We’ll go to dinner! I’ll buy you a drink! Come over, I’ll cook!’” Cuomo said.

The leftists told me that the rich couldn't just get up and walk away, guys..? What happened?

You can bring down the death rate of one virus at the cost of rising the death rates of other diseases like cancer, since they dont admit patients currently.
You can bring down the death rate of one virus for a short period of time by putting millions into dire straits facing homelessness, drugs, suicide and crime.
You can bring down the death for a short period of time which will then have a flatter curve but still the same amount of deaths and infected at the possible end of everyone being infected at one point or the other.
In the end you could make a model comparing the overblown data that was shown for corona virus deaths vs deaths caused by the government intervention.

Don't end the quarantines 1-2 weeks too early and don't stop limiting travel yet, like literally every country in the world did, so the disease gets actually choked out.

That last point is the most fatal one because there's no lasting immunity and no herd immunity, now we get all the coof waves forever because countries were too lax with restrictions and too impatient with ending them on the first wave. Death for boomers, permanent lung scarring and organ damage for millenials, grim future for zoomers.

I’m getting really worried about a nasdaq crash. This week noticed a lot more crabbing than normal, but with these weird vertical dumps that are instantly met with even weirder vertical recoveries. There has been hardly any bull/bear runs all week. Even if you compare for e.g bread - A no name company will not outsell a famous branded bread even if it is half the price.

This is true with breads as well as beans. We have plenty of supermarket own label offerings here in the UK for both bread and beans but they will not outsell Heinz or Warburtons even if they are half the price.

You hold a block of shares (100) and then you sell calls for an 'improbable' (but close) strike. I sold mine at $20.50 for the 21st, $110/ea. Your calls are covered by holding the underlying, the calls sold give the holder the right to buy at strike, I don't suggest strike below cost basis. When it expires you get the premium.

Oh that is not always true either Sears branded everything themselves and sold a ton always trying to double down on quality so people would assume that Sears was a better buy. Quality and taste make a difference, you can also be more save to sue a million dollar company if they poison you.

They will outsell the current top brand company once the quality becomes better otherwise Microsoft's Windows wouldn't be were it is today.I can even name one company which grew complacent on its printers and lost a big share of its market- HP.

NET isn't nearly as volatile as FNLY and doesn't have the Achilles Heel of most of it's revenue coming from a platform that's currently in talks of being banned. If you're worried then pull out now but NET isn't the kind of stock to swing trade. Just but every dip and forget about it, it has good fundamentals and is a key player in the internet. Even if it drops on earnings it won't be by much and it's come back. Getting out on NET is like getting out on AMD because you see INTL tanking.
