He's good, experienced, entertaining, and does have an understanding of the markets. The narrative he has generally makes better sense then the mainstream narrative. Looks at all sorts of things, sector performance, bond market, etc.

Problem is he gets very little sleep, is very old, and it taking major pain meds and migraine meds.

Also DC keeps him on a leash.

Dollar cost average into VOO, SPY, or any other s&p500 ETF for the next 20 years and reinvest the dividends. You'll beat about 80% of actively managed funds.

That's it. That's literally all there is too it. Maybe open up a Roth IRA somewhere down the line, and you will be good to go.

Who knows. There seems to be two camps that think extreme inflation is on the menu (than stocks will just keep going to match it) or deflation (for which stocks are awful) and little in between. This is what uncertainty means and if you want a "set it and forget it" holding that you check infrequently for years this is probably not the time for it.
The thing most new "traders" and "investors" haven't picked up or realized is that the 2008 crash was not overnight and was a slide that lasted over 2-3 years. 2 years of frustration, doom, and gloom. It is a blessing comparatively that the march crash was so sudden but the rally afterwards has no real historical precedent since it was entirely from unprecedented experimental Fed intervention.
If you "zoom out" on SPY over years and decades the trend overall is still upward, perhaps because of inflation if nothing else. SPY is already a sampling of a large segment of the economy and so if its movement ever becomes secular downward or sideways (like Japan or many markets in Europe) than investing in the market was the losing move all along and it didn't really matter when you timed it.
Think about your risk tolerance and time horizon. Retirement accounts are hard pressed to do much better than large low expense index funds or index ETFs. Big conservative money tends to go into muncipal bonds and treasuries to protect their money while avoiding taxes on coupons.

DCA is "timing the market" with a different meme. The point of average anything is because mortals are capital limited and so if you time contributions to when you get a paycheck or every X months than it prevents you from micromanaging yourself into losses. Average down is an enormous meme where you convert a bad thesis into a thesis that bleeds you out alive. All the biggest stocktwits of despair - GNUS, KODK, etc. - are all filled with average down memes. As an investor, with your timeframe of years or decades, its better to be "fashionably late" than try to be early.
Entirely different story for trading.

Just buy leveraged ETFs cuz that's literally how they work. Every day when the price goes higher, the ETF's manager adds more leverage to the position behind the scenes. That's why 3x TQQQ has gone up over 4000% since 2012 while the Nasdaq it's based on has only gone up 400%. Note that added leverage from Direxion "adding to the winner" is what resulted in a 10x rather than the nominal 3x.

I hear there's this new buy-and-hold meme where instead of buying stocks you buy LEAPS on the stock 1-2 years out and the leverage increases your gains as opposed to just buying the stock outright.

What I have trouble finding is how far ITM/OTM is best. It seems that at the most extreme ITM (e.g. SPY $25 call) it's literally equivalent to buying 100 shares; OptionProfitCalculator shows it as a horizontal line with green on top and red on the bottom.

If I were to guess, it seems that you want the strike/expiry to be such that theta decay starts kicking in right as you're ITM and choosing the percentage OTM-ness is the skill.

Stock valuations are based on a billion different things in a billion different time horizons by millions of people with different ideas of value and risk assessment, then there's all the TA and vodoo, fucked up stats, volatility, economic ramblings, perceived value vs. intrinsic value, fucked up models made by econometricians that are actually not traders, wheelers and dealers pumping and dumping, diamond handed retards holding into bankruptcy on faith, insensitive gamblers, short squeezes...

All that shit is precipitated into a candle that bobs up and down and determines a fair price for a split second that can dilate or contract depending on the volatility at that given moment.

Look at KODK, it traded to a $2.6bn mcap over a paltry $765m loan, it promptly corrected thereafter and is now worth less than the loan amount. That wasn't based on value, that was based on rampant speculation, FOMO, momentum, and the sheer volume of social media coverage.

Their competitor GOLF (titleist etc) went down, but it's not due to the golf market suffering. Golf is one of the only common activities the average person could still do during corona.

Instead, both companies had to shut down manufacturing for a couple of months. BUT apparently Calloway had engaged in some big unrelated push beforehand and so was able to keep shipping times reasonable while their competitor couldn't.

Their earnings come out after market closes tomorrow but there are already some very impressive sales figures out.

It's going to catch a lot of people by surprise. And every boomer with an interest in golf will hear about it and be jumping on board afterwards.

I will tell you it's incredibly distracting being on speed seeing on of your long holds moon trying to work. That is so much dopamine in your brain at once I think I might break it.

If that random twitter guy I saw was right and the big move on the COT was large specs in fact closing their /es short hedges, surely their ports would have become higher gamma? You have learned plenty, I'm sure. General idea of what is normal market activity and what is abnormal movement is difficult to put a finger on exactly, or even explain, but after a while you start to get a feel for it. Combine that feel with building up solid aspects of your strategy through reading and testing, whether TA based or FA based, and you will get better.
