I've put £5.5k into stocks now and it's all surplus savings (savings that aren't earning inflation-beating interest) that I can afford to lose entirely. The money I add is surplus from my salary after all need and want expenses (£500/mo). If I start putting in more then I'm increasing my risk and potentially using money I could need, so I don't want to. It's small numbers but I'm already up 25% and this isn't to replace my job, it's to increase my savings and speed up money for buying a house.

I don't really consider DPHC a meme stock. Lordstown has $1.4bn in pre-orders, a decent/actual prototype, a good position in the EV truck market, and a big fuck off factory in a highly political swing state. The merger clearly wasn't already priced into the stock price prior to the news, and considering the $10.00 per share PIPE price in the merger deal I figured any buy at $11.xx has an entirely manageable amount of risk.
It's also related to WKHS which as a stock has been rock solid reliable between $14-16 support, which to me suggests that investors aren't bearish or looking to exit the EV market generally. Lastly, I hold very little regard to the idea that established ICE carmakers will significantly challenge EV companies like Lordstown or Workhorse in this market, so I am prepared to hold long if necessary.
