I think smart contracts and I.O.T will be a massive thing in the future as paradigm shifting as the Internet was. My only doubts are if tokens are needed for such a thing and that crypto will fail and be replaced with something that doesn’t need tokens to function.

Little bit of both. Consider paxos gold. A token pegged to the spot price of gold. Now imagine if you could invest in gold, but then use aave to take a loan against your gold. You can't take out a loan against physical gold easily as you can in block space. I think "tokenization" is the biggest value in crypto. So that's why when tezos comes along with a tagline of "tokenize everything" I found it intriguing, although I then just raised the question of "just use eth" but the market still shot the price way up.

Just something to think about.
