Comex was never designed as a delivery vehicle, it was designed to roll over contracts in order to short more and divorce the price from reality. 32.7k open interest remained on the August gold contract instead of getting rolled over. 100 oz/contract means 3.2m oz. Largest delivery numbers on record, for like the 5th delivery month in a row.
Basically, it's all the biggest individuals and families cashing out their paper positions in physical instead of fiat. At this rate, the September silver contract (currently at about 130k open interest, 5000 oz per) will clock in at 650m toz of silver, and the whole comex is forced to declare force majeure and default because nobody is able to deliver.
