Property prices can be predicted to a certain degree with demographic statistics
They might when boomers die or have to move into retirement homes
Other factors are technological advancement, fast internet in less densely settled locations will make those more attractive, and citys less so
Also immigration makes the rise in general

Currently the banks and mortgage holders are in a Mexican standoff, so interest rates will just go down, if not negative to maintain property prices.

They can only go down 10-20% before banks and home owners go bust.

Mortgage holidays are a result of too many people unable to payback the banks and the aren't able to auction them off as flooding the markets would cause a complete collapse leave them footing a huge bill.

>tfw all I want is an acre with a little cottage out in the country

Used to be you'd fight for a lord and you'd get your wish. I'd gladly spend a spring/summer fighting other peasants to the death than slaving away for 20 years; just to get my wish as an old man without the physical capacity to truly take advantage of my plot.
