Just getting in early so that I can repeat this from the last thread.

"GDXJ and SILJ will get delisted soon, and the people here who are foolishly buying options on them will lose everything as they should. This video will explain it all to you in detail but only if you watch it, in detail and with active learning

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XliHE6QgljY&feature=emb_title

You should be doing either one or both or neither of two things,

1) Buying EFTs to hold in your possession, if it's not in your hand at your job you will be canned. Simple as

2) Buying the GOLD and SLV stocks and EFTs on the stock market. This is important!

Chris Marcus interviewed over a hundred people in the anime futa industry for his book "The Big Silver Shorty Pants," and, when he would ask each one how many owners there are for each mercury dime, he never got an answer lower than 500."

The only situation in the last 10 years that could give you a little bit of an idea would be Venezuela and their Fiat Collapse. A single ounce of silver was enough to feed a family of 4 for over a month. a single ounce of gold gets you a house. Would that happen in America? Probably not, but it wouldn't be far off.

idk friend it prices everywhere are rising whilst wages are stagnant. I can't imagine that the western democracies would ever choose to cut spending and raise interest rates to save the value of the dollar when it is more politically popular to just print more money and give it out for free. I mean poor americans are making more from the corona virus payments then they did working at their jobs, that to me shows that America is poorer then it has ever been in its history and that once the dominance of the dollar dies America is going to fall.

And when America falls the entire global trade system falls with it, no more american navy to keep the pax americana suddenly sending a unprotected trade ship filled with valuables other countries want becomes a risk. This is basically the bronze age collapse all over again.

Silver's industrial use case means you're never going to see that valuation on silver again. Not saying it isn't grossly undervalued today, but it's an economy of scale no matter what system you're using, and $1k per ounce silver means you can say goodbye to soldering and brazinging, batteries, glass coatings, LED chips, nuclear reactors, photography, solar energy, semiconductors, touch screens, water purification, wood preservatives etc etc etc.

It has weakened a lot though. While still stronger than the USD, it used to be the case that you’d almost never spend a pound coin, only at most a shilling or perhaps a crown. Pounds and guineas as part of consumer spending were for rich people. But now things have slid so much that £50 is the new £1.

This isn’t an organic development: between 1820 and around 1914 your shilling bought roughly the same basket of goods. So the collapse after each war was sudden and unwelcome by people at the time. It’s not as if they didn’t notice either: just ask an old timer and be prepared for almost literally hours of moaning about the change in purchasing power.

If your country has a mint, their coins are often a good bet, relatively speaking. That, or the coins/rounds of the nearest major minting nation.

Americans are lucky because they are a major minting nation AND they have a lot of old silver coins floating about, AND there are a lot of private mints and dealers.

For a lot of the Third World, island countries etc. that have no mint of their own private or public though you are just going to get reamed by shipping import taxes and so on whatever you do. Still provably worth it.

A. Has no empirical basis for being believed in after 90 years of implementation

In the specific case of the pound though, it wasn’t even just a case of government policy to allow inflation to support growth, it was a result of wartime spending.

Actually the same thing happened after the Napoleonic Wars come to think about it, which is why they brought in all new money in 1820. The difference was that after the Napoleonic Wars, they brought back new PM money, whereas after WWI and WWII they just took the PMs out of the coins and that was that.

I would actually agree with you, to the extent that ETFs are probably the best way to actually make money if you’re quick and smart about it.

But keep in mind that a lot of people here only have so much money to play around with. Some people are looking to play the very long game and essentially just hoard forever. You also have people understandably frightened by government monetary policy they don’t understand (and when they do it doesn’t necessarily inspire confidence) and are just looking for an asset they can hold and be sure won’t slip through their fingers. The opportunity cost argument won’t work on these people.

>tiny irrelevant profit

Any profit is a good profit. Because of how much the Fed is propping up the stock markets, there’s a perceived risk of getting mugged if and when this support is no longer tenable.

That might be an unreasonable fear (it could be the case that the Feds can and will stay in charge forever) but this is the main reason people are shunning the markets, ESPECIALLY those without much money they can afford to lose.

Suppose like you said you’re someone with just $9,000. You put it in stocks, you risk losing it from market shocks. You keep in the bank, you fear inflation. You put it in physical PMs, you know you will ALWAYS have that metal, it won’t go anywhere. That’s a massive comfort to people, especially the less money they have and the less they understand how to game the system and do clever tricky well-timed moves.

I think you have it backwards: it’s rather people who already have a pile of both cash and PMs who will feel okay with speculating with their money.
