You should have said you'll accept the new lower rate on condition that after 6 months if they're happy with you and want to continue your employment, they raise your rate by 10k (8 +2 for bullshit).

It sets the precedent that you are willing to play ball but they must put something on the table.

You also get to find out if this is a company worth working for long term. You'll find out in 6 months if they keep their end of a deal (get it in your contract).

If that fails, just accept and look for another job while they pay you. The only real power you have is to walk away.
