I got a mechanical engineering degree too and have no fucking business being an engineer. I'm the dumbest mf on this board, I guarantee it. Been working for 3 years now for an MEP company that designs construction projects and produces construction documents (drawings, specs, etc). Its not bad, I make OK money, and if I were to get my PE I'd comfortably clear $100k. I definitely regret majoring in MechE and wish I had done software or civil. So many comfy government civil jobs out there. Programming would have been better too, I'd still hate my life but at least I'd be paid for it. I should've never done engineering though.

I've been working at this company that's close to my house for a while, the office is a complete piece of shit but considered a remote office since HQ is based in a different state, so I've been working there 3 years and everyone in the office works on seperate projects and rarely do people use the confrence room or communicate to each other, when supplies are ordered they don't trust the office manager enough to take a credit card to the convenience store accross the street instead they drop ship the supplies from staples to the office. if you ask for a new chair they google the most expensive executive chair and get ripped off buying and shipping it to you cause it costs too much money to think. so with an office full of remote employees that are forced to be in the office the main honcho decided one day that he should just work from home and keep his office...and nobody cared, the work that I perform is extremely dull and our customers are incompetent and stupid, when we deliver marketable code they make up new rules that breach the contract and force every product to submit to the new rules, (most of these apps were written 30+ years ago, ergo legacy) we get shitty email correspondence that reflect no cognitive activity. anyways In the past whenever I worked from home it was cause I really didn't want to go in the office ergo the week of christmas or thanksgiving ect. so when corona hit 03/16/2020 was when shit got real

usually I finish large tickets in a matter of weeks I did a re-write over the course of a month at lightening speed and diligence then submitted it at the end of the month, one week testing then took over a year for them to accept it cause idiots..

Me, I feel terrible about it but it's hard to focus and nobody's going to the office. They don't seem to care though. In my country we have the best of both worlds right now, there are barely any infected people anymore and everything is open, but we can still work from home if we want to (and everyone does it). So I just stay home, go to the gym and in the weekends I go out.
