If anyone here is in high school and thinking of going into finance: don't do it if you have the option to do STEM instead.
The finance job market (and finance culture) is a fucking meme for 2 reasons:
>greedy people think the pay is good
>it's easy as fuck to become qualified to work in finance
Finance """professionals""" are not skilled workers. All you need is a bachelor's degree, which any retard can get. You'd probably get just as good of an education reading Investopedia articles, especially since most of the more 'technical' stuff they teach in finance school is basically bullshit. Why do you think the single most useful qualification for getting a finance job is that you "know somebody"? Because any idiot can work in finance.

Take in the fact that the most technical area in finance, quantitative finance, is full of people who didn't even study finance, or even business, in school. It's all mathematicians, engineers, physicists, etc., because if you are that smart and have that quantitative ability, how fucking hard is it to learn what a BOND is? or how a call option works? What a joke.

Am banking&finance master's student. Can confirm. This was a very stupid decision. I already understood enough to work before this, now I'm learning complex quantitative models for pricing and shit and after learning each one, the textbooks and professors are like "oh yea and also this doesnt really work and has massive blind spots. maybe you can augment the model for your thesis?"
