Can someone explain this meme to me?
My highest dividend bank stock is USB at .42 a share. Now im a poorfag but lets say I had enough to buy 100 stocks. At the current price of 36 (which still hasnt rebounded from pre covid levels) that means roughly 3600 dollars invested to get $42 quarterly in dividends, thats 168 a year. I would have to hold this stock and collect dividends for 19 years just to recoup my initial investment. Mean while I could put a couple grand in a winning stock and make thousands in a month. Why should I care about dividends?

I'm making a vow anons. I will never use options to gamble again. From now on I'm only about using them to hedge or otherwise advance my stock position. This last week or so has beem the most comfy trading I have ever experienced. Watching as theta eats away at calls I sold and still not losing money on my crabbing stock has been absolutely exquisite. Is this a stage all beginner options traders encounter? >> No.20553755

You can realize it if you want. That's the thing. You can choose to sell 4% and make your own dividend. This is also why companies do buybacks because they are more tax efficient. It gives the shareholders the option to sell a portion if they want the income but doesn't force them to pay the tax if they don't.
You pay tax on dividend payouts even if you reinvest. It's the worst of all worlds.

OK, then what if I sold in Feb or March?
