Hey /biz/. I need help deciding between 2 job offers. One is in Miami, FL and is with a pretty big Fortune 500 corporate insurance company, but their headquarters is in New York City. The other is for a smaller sized company in Springfield, IL which seems friendly and I would be working at their headquarters. Salary is basically the same.

Seriously how do I decide?

avoid FL like the plague, everything there is horrible

only go if you are black or brown

Miami would be fun to live in. Illinois is a shit hole.

I personally would choose Miami in a heartbeat but thats because I love the beach and being able to ride my motorcycle all year long would be awesome

But besides the location, what about the companies? How important is prestige, or size? The Miami one is super big and corporate, but the Illinois one is relatively unknown and small. The job is an actuary.

If it's your first job or two the bigger company will set you up for bigger moves. Smaller company won't open as many doors but you might be happier there.

I always wanted a real home

It is my second job ever and first in this career, and the positions are both entry level. To give a sense of size though, the smaller company has a market cap of about 1.6 billion while the bigger one is about 6 billion. Neither are enormous companies by any means, but I kind of agree I might be a little happier in general at the smaller one. This is a difficult choice for me. The smaller one also pays jist slightly more, but only 3k more per year so it's almost negligible.
Thank you very much for your input. At this point I am starting to lean towards the bigger Miami option.

I don't know this song but the words reminded me of something Frank Sinatra might have said for some reason.

If you are OK with plateauing go for the small company. If you want more income and more of a career, pick the larger one.

NY or FL if you want to keep climbing/moving
IL if you want to set roots

Then counteroffer the smaller company and ask for $10k more. If they say yes then awesome, if they say no you do Miami

>t. entry level insurance UW with a large regional

The smaller company was actually 10k more than the bigger company, so I told the bigger company this and they boosted their offer by 7k. The smaller company's offer is already very high for this role so I'm not going to ask for more.

I appreciate the advice. The bigger one it is then.

Make the most of it, anon. It's soulless but cushy in my role - I'm P&C commercial lines. I thought about trying to jump over to actuarial but the pay scale for underwriting and the employment requirements are stupid broken in the favor of underwriting at my firm. Congrats, and kudos for having the balls to negotiate in this labor market. Ygmi and have a hot wife.

Do you like cocaine, whores and fast cars? Or do you like sucking off closeted coboys through the glory hole in the local dive bar bathroom?
Choose accordingly.

Why work when you can just work for Kleros and eventually make enough ETH to never work, ever?

The first one?...
>>20538997
Yeah I just noticed FL has no state tax, but there's still much larger bonuses at the IL firm.
