>I've heard of jippo loggers. i forgot the exact entomology of the term. but always remembered it was indicative of poor, unsafe, dangerous practices, among other things.
i didn't know there were jippo miners
apparently it's a slur aimed at either egyptians or more likely in the US, gypsies. The implication being someone that fulfills the terms of a contract and then moves on, without regard to what happens after they leave.

in mining jippos are just contract miners, or mining contractors depending on the job. In one case we lease a property for a certain amount of time and then mine as much ore as we can in that time period to maximize profits. In the second case we're paid by the foot to drive some amount of adit or shaft as quickly as possible.

of course both types of contract rely on speed to make money, so safety was historically a major problem in employing jippo miners. The only upsides were either 1. getting paid to do nothing while the contract miners do all the work, or 2. getting unprofitable adits and shafts driven very quickly.

Now jippo miners are regulated by MSHA the same way other miners are, so we aren't actually responsible for that many mining accidents and safety violations. It still happens though. But now the people that wind up getting killed are almost always the jippo miners themselves if they fuck up.

no disrespect taken, it means the same here.

it's just how contract miners worked because margins were so high and ore tenor so variable that if they did things by the book they'd have never made money.

as it was they cut corners and literally destroyed mines to make a profit. It's just the way the game was played.

Absolutely. If they need to cover a short, they will need to buy it from the open market. What if nobody wants to sell at current prices? Then you need to pump the price which causes you to lose even more money on shorts so you need to cover even more positions. This is what happened in 2011.

I did a contract for Tyson years back.

but yeah, underground is dying here. Open Pit is so much cheaper and easier. And safer. One example, the Climax Moly Mine in my are used to be all underground and employed ~3,000 people. Now it's open pit, processes ten times more ore, and employs ~350 people.

underground miners are being phased out in the US at least. I currently have 5 people on my crew with their MSHA underground certifications including myself, but we make far more money contracting than we every would as employees of Tyson or anyone else.

"This is MEGA. No wonder silver is up nearly 3% today. Liquidity in the paper market is close to zero.
SILVER SHORT SQUEEZE ALERT: Sprott Silver Trust To Purchase $1.5 Billion Of Physical Silver, A Jaw-Dropping 8.8% Of Annual Global Production!"

"The Swaps on Comex are only slightly short but they will want to keep an even book. Don't know where the physical will come from. I guess Sprott will end up taking delivery on Comex as well as London. Won't do any harm to the gold price, either!"

we do have some UG mining still, but it's smaller projects.

I think the starting pay here is about $25/hr for surface work, $35/hr for underground, and well over $250/hr for contracting. The wise miner is self-employed. But contractors have very limited uses. Nobody is going to run a whole mine paying people upwards of $250/hr. So I don't work on one mine, I work on dozens for relatively short periods of time.

"Creating a currency out of thin air" would be pointless. Nobody would ascribe any value to it. The U. S. only achieved pre-eminence for its currency by a unique historical circumstance. It lied that it was backed by gold, and then, once it had caused everybody to depend on it, took the gold-backing away. You can't repeat that trick a second time. Volcker made his move in 79 if I recall correctly. But the REASON he was even able to do that in the first place, and intentionally kickstart a recession, is because the US economy and banking sector could handle it back then. Oh yeah, they hated it. Volcker had mud slinged at him for years, only later being revered as a brass-balled badass.

However the debt situation is so bad now that this time around, a Volcker-style rate hike would fucking KILL the system. It would be such a historic collapse that the USA's status as a world superpower would be in jeopardy. War would be a real possibility (even more so than it is today).

That's why, politically, we might not be able to go down that route. I agree that we need to take the hard chemotherapy now lest we suffer the terminal disease later. And I'm worried we have no politically palatable solution but to head for the terminal disease of inflation.

I've circled on this chart how overleveraged the US was in 1979 when Volcker made his move, versus today

We're moving away from being world police and global shipping guarantors, being non-integrated into the global economy is probably one of the USA's biggest strengths moving into a global currency collapse, right behind its ridiculous food output.

Macleod's argument is that, once we get back to a gold standard, crypto becomes largely irrelevant; because half its perceived value is as an inflation-hedge and a protection against a currency crisis. To a great extent, this is true. Crypto does, however, offer the advantage of privacy, so I do hold a small position in select cryptocurrencies which I believe in, like XMR, ETH, and BCH. For safety against risk, buy the GDX, GDXJ, SIL, SILJ ETFs. You will do extremely well with these, and can simply hold them without any worry about buying or selling or research.

For greater gains, the best small-caps (into which you should put only 1% of your wealth) are Euro Sun Mining, Wallbridge Mining, and McEwen Mining. For extreme speculation, buy Spanish Mountain Gold, Newrange Gold, and Goldquest Mining. With respect to these ones, as I have said in another thread,

SPA has only just come to people's attention; it has ten million ounces of gold in the ground, and just got an investment from Eric Sprott, after Don Durrett wrote an article about it on SeekingAlpha. People speculate that it may become the next FVL and go 40x.

Newrange Gold is about to publish drilling results which might send the stock soaring immediately.

Goldquest Mining will soar the moment it gets a permit from the Dominican Republic; which is likely to happen, because tourism is down, and mining is now one of their only sources of income. They have also just recently elected a business-minded president.

pretty sure Pan Man is right and they're just laundering.

no reason to take risks on investments when all you do is essentially print your own money. They're probably washing dollars into silver and back to pesos to immediately make payroll, buy weapons, buy land, buy vehicles, buy drugs, etc.

there's a solid chance it's just laundry detergent for them. It does them no good in a vault somewhere.

Will repeat what I said in another thread:

*

David Brady is still maintaining that miners and metals, along with the market as a whole, may drop substantially within the next few weeks. He says that gold could drop to 1750, 1670, or even as low as 1400. But others believe that his technical analysis is meaningless, because a short squeeze is taking place, and the COMEX ponzi-scheme is about to collapse. See Alisdair McCleod, after Eric Sprott just demanded 8.8% of the world's annual silver supply. James Turk is now predicting imminent $30 silver. Nobody should be all-in on precious metals yet, but nobody should be without a core position either.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XliHE6QgljY

Keep 33-66% of your money in metals and miners, and the rest ready to buy into a crash. If the Fed implements YCC before then, or if there is a crisis on the COMEX, expect there to be no crash; it is at that point that one goes all-in.

If you buy now, you're FOMOing and chasing, which is always the wrong place to be. That said if you don't buy you're risking just getting more and more priced out and even future pullbacks may be ahead of current prices.

Personally I see a future pullback happening in PM's as we've formed a perfect cup formation and have gone parabolic. Straight up, straight down, as they say, which would be perfect to complete the handle of the formation. I think it's happening, but it's in no way guaranteed. A decent hedge would be to buy a bit on undervalued stocks like Metalla and Aurcana, Maybe osisko, to name some, and have money ready for any pullbacks. But again, this isn't guaranteed. You should've listened anon... where were you the last 3 months. We've had 50% gains average lol.

Some stocks will be available on your country's stock exchange. People in the U. K. can buy Hummingbird Resources, Hochschild Mining, Adriatic Metals, etc., on the LSE. People in the U. S. can buy Hecla Mining, McEwen Mining, Endeavour Silver, etc., on the NYSE. Both have the GDX and GDXJ. To buy international stocks, use a broker like International Brokers, or buy a foreign listing if it is available to you. If you buy a foreign listing, however, be aware that it will be highly illiquid, and that you ought to do a currency conversion of the price on the original stock exchange, and make a bid for that price only. Don't overpay for the asking price unless absolutely necessary.

Does Mexico even track metals sales? If the cops catch wind of it they're probably just going to want a cut. And if they get greedy the cartel will kill them.

I think mexico's all in on cartels, the laundering is probably just a formality to keep the US from demanding intervention. The cartels run that country now. They own it.

they do but not to the same degree we do here in the states. they have system similar to FINCEN and if people routinely make suspicious transactions they can track it. but they dont have the manpower to focus on small scale transactions. thats why the cartel hires halcons and college kids to launder it for them in various ways. car washes, laundromats, jewelry are all easy ways to launder money.

we have silver mines just as rich but we can't work them because our labor costs 10X more and legal compliance is extraordinarily expensive here.

the only valuable business they have is selling us drugs, and nobody here wants that job. Next most valuable is harvesting our vegetables, again nobody wants it. After that building us hotels and condos and then bringing us coco locos on the beach. They're welcome to it.

be like invading the busboy's house to steal back the $1.75 you tipped him earlier.

Russian and Saudi oil is PRODUCED cheaper, but once you factor in the costs to transport it (and all the security and uncertainty costs associated with anything in the mideast) those savings start to vanish. Saudi and Russian oil is also heavy, sour, tar; it is a pain to refine and a pain to move via pipeline compared to the light, sweet crude you get via fracking shale. And because US refiners prefer shale oil as a feed stock so much, they retooled their facilities to run on it, locking them in to shale as a feed stream.

Need I also remind you that the Russian and Saudi governments depend on their petro-exports to stay alive? Their companies are essentially part of the state at this point for that reason. A disruption to shale causes a hit to the economy of the Dakotas and the Canadian shale plays while the wells are shuttered. This prolonged price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia causes massive damage to both of those countries.

But you already knew all that, and you're just pretending not to know anything about energy right?

I'll tell you a secret based on experience-

it's absurdly cheap to fly to Cabo or Cancun or Cozumel, and for $50 you can easily get your dick wet down there with some 18 year old hot thing in a short dress.

you just have to stay in one of the all-inclusive resorts where the better hookers hang out. A night in those resorts is generally cheaper than a night at the Airport Hilton so it's not a big deal. A couple thousand dollar vacation, all the food and drinks you can consume, and cheap latinas in your bed each night if that's your thing.

if you make more than $75k per year you can usually stay for free in exchange for sitting through a time share sales presentation.
