What are some things to know before setting up a PayPal account?
I do not want to link it to a bank account, rather I would like it to be a credit card.

Don't rely too much on PayPal, they will fuck you in the ass easily and you will have your money frozen.

That they can freeze your account and hold all your money without notice if you accumulate too much in there, and to unlock it you have to provide them a significant amount of documentation and spend a lot of time on the phone with an idiot customer service guy.

>> No.20411646

use it as a payments gateway, not a savings or everyday account and you'll be fine. it serves its purpose

Well for ebay, what other choices are there?
>>20411554
I would not be keeping a ton of money in there, its just for payment of things online.

sounds like facebook levels of personal info gathering

That is exactly what I want to see it for. Is there anything I should know regarding that?

Didn't even know that was a thing.

I'll be real with you, when it comes to this shit, yes I am. I have a boomer level of mentality when to comes to this stuff, I am very behind the curve when it comes to online stuff regarding money. I move like a snail.
Covid only recently pushed me to finally start banking online, I was putting it off for years. You may find it hard to wrap your brain about my way of thinking, but it is what it is.

They once hounded me more remorselessly than any collections agency over a balance of -$10. I'm talking threatening phone calls every day type shit. But their buyer protection is top notch. Overall, decent company. But yeah, OP, never store big bucks there. Transfer straight to bank.

Up until August last year they only froze it for 180mdays. Then they pulled some new rule for people outside of Canada/us so they literally take the entire balance from your account if you are from south America (I am).

Id rather not link a PayPal account to my bank account, but do I have no choice?

I don’t think PayPal as a platform has ever suffered a major breach yet. However, it is one of the most popular platforms for phishing attacks of individual users.

As the other anons have said, as a payment gateway it’s good because it reduces your risk to fraud from online stores. When shopping you don’t need to give your credit card information by using PayPal, plus if you get scammed they always take the buyers side. Just don’t use it to sell stuff yourself, because as soon as you start making any real money, the account will be frozen until you start supplying passport, signed agreements, etc

Yeah, I was just going to use it mostly for buying stuff. I assume I can link my credit card to it but not a bank account for that purpose.
>Just don’t use it to sell stuff yourself, because as soon as you start making any real money, the account will be frozen until you start supplying passport, signed agreements, etc
What is considered real money? If I ever were to use it to sell anything, I would be making anymore than a few dollars. But I guess selling on ebay is out of the question then, and ebay IIRC only uses that shit. So I guess every high ballin ebay seller has to sign all this agreement shit?

Yes, if you just want to link a card to it and do some shopping, plus you secure your account with a unique password and don’t click phishing links, you should be okay.

As far as how much money you could make before being locked out, you might be able to find a fixed answer searching online, but when it happened to me it was only about $1000. I was selling high value, high risk items through eBay and I had to provide PayPal with invoices for my stock. They were all legitimately purchased so I was able to, but the process took weeks and dozens of hours of my time. If you are selling dollar items it might not be such an issue.

You can link your credit card and make PayPal payments as easily as you make credit card payments. You hardly notice its in between at all.

Will PP ask for my phone number at any point?

That’s not really the issue though. The issue is what happens to your PayPal account if it gets compromised. If you bank withdrawals confirmed you’re at more risk of suffering losses. If you just have a credit card linked, you’re going to get your money back.

Make over 200 a day on eBay. I always withdraw fast as fuck. Not only does money sometimes randomly disappear from it, making me need to dial up PayPal to yell at them to put it back - but they’ve on numerous occasions let customers steal from me by opening up a case saying they didn’t buy the thing and they had their card “stolen”

thank fuck they’re moving away from it
