For example if you buy a stock at $3.95 and it falls to $3.36 how do you get the loss percentage out of it? Do you just divide 3.36 by 3.95? Does that mean it fell 15%? On my app it says I fell 12.95% in this case

DCA at a rate proportional to your plan. E.g. if you want 80:20 SOXL:TMF, you could buy one share a day at a rate of 4 soxl, then 1 tmf, then 4 soxl...
Or you could do like the doombull in chief and get tmf on green days, soxl on red days... and reduce how much you buy based on relative position imbalance (or just hold it and rebalance later).
Things like tqqq and soxl go up and go up fast. You want to be in, you don't want to wait for "good entry". The next "good entry" is either the next leg down, or it's the next crash that will only happen in 10 years. With TMF+{TQQQ|SOXL}, you're good to go even if there's a second leg down.

I don't know where it's at now, but it's rallied so damn high I'd only buy on weakness. Sure, it's a great company for the long run, assuming their semiconductors don't get fucked by the china shit, but there are probably less risky ones to pick right now.

Anyhow, if there's a company you really want at a certain price, and you have enough cash, I say set some aside and set some limit orders at ideal prices to buy it on the way down if we correct.

No. Post-earnings trading rarely abides by any sort of fundamental metric like that. Line can go all kind of every which way in days following earnings, often the opposite direction of which way line ought go in light of them. Dump on earnings beat, pump on earnings miss, you don't know.

The 90% statistic refers to people who lose 90% in 90 days. It does not account for people who exit the market having lost less than this.
"Daytrading" as it existed in 2000 is dead, replaced entirely by robot overlords. The only space left is really swing trading based on price movements from catalysts. Earnings always exist, but playing market overreactions is probably the best play. But its still mostly about risk management to win 60% of the win while still willing to not be emotionally invested in turning those 40% losers into bigger losers.

Of all the EVs this looked the most promising BUT it's Chinese. Couldn't risk it even when it was at $9.

Had I gone all in I'd have breached the 6 figures mark. Same deal with one other stock I was interested in. If only I had the confidence to do it.

lmao you fags said the exact same thing about NIO when it was $11. Then $12. Then $13.

This stock is undervalued as fuck and we are in a EV bubble. The stock is also chinese which means CCP green dick will make sure to rearrange its organs. It's literally the closest thing to Tesla in China, and we all know how those motherfuckers love to have their own version of american things. They reported great sales just a couple of days ago and now they are receiving a $1bi credit line from 6 major chinese banks. It's just catalyst and bullish news one after the other. You are insane if you are shorting NIO right now.

If it flies up all vertical like that it's going to lose steam at some point and retrace a part of the move. Nothing ever stays on a rising trend line that steep for long. Really good growth companies can do the parabolic move, lose momentum, pull back a ways (potentially a lot, like 30-40-50%), consolidate, resume upward momentum again. Is horsie a really good growth company? Maybe. The story sounds good at least. Earnings aren't there yet though so a lot of this is speculation trading pushing it around.

Options are "insurance" policies with a premium quoted as per share for batches of 100 shares. The price is determined by time to expiration (more time -> higher premium because more coverage), volatility (how likely is that stock to swing wildly into or out of making money for the seller), and current price
Buying calls is the "right (but not obligation) to buy". Buying puts is the "right to sell". Sellers or puts and calls are obligated to perform the transaction if the buyer chooses to "exercise" it. In exchange, they get a premium even if the option winds up being worthless to the buyer.
I won't try to summarize more than to say that a good, but not complete, analogy to buying calls is preordering a new release of a collectible card game. That prerelease reserve price will depend on the perceived value of the game once in circulation by a fixed date and may move as the cards are perceived as more or less valuable over time.
The analogy for puts is car insurance. The buyer of the put is the driver and the seller of the put is the auto insurance company. The rate that company charges the driver is based on how long they hold the coverage (monthly rate), past driving history ("volatility"), and the current worth of the car (current "price" to replace).

>> No.20241735

>>20241645
So basically what you're saying is in order to make a profit, I'd need to (in the case of calls) preorder the game at a certain prerelease price and sell that price once the actual price of the game increases?

Sort of. The other (and main component) you are fighting is time.
If the perceived value of the box rises near its release, then if its $95 6 months before release and the "strike price" (price to guarantee you can buy at) is $100 dollars, the premium will be higher than if its $95 1 month before release for the same strike price.
You can make money as the buyer of the "preorder" if you can sell it to someone else but time "decay" is fighting against you.
