Best bet is to walk up to some construction or demo site, and just ask if you can go through their trash for scrap. Dont worry about purity too much, most copper wire is just copper. It's time consuming, usually only done by homeless, but if you are smart and hit up the right dumpsters (hint, construction sites and telephone exchange buildings are copper mines) you can make a decent stack of copper in no time.

I'm thinking about buying some silver from a brick and morter store for the first time and was wondering about premiums and fees and if its difficult to sell. I would probably sell portions of it at a time with someone face to face for cash if I had to (in Minecraft), but my goal is to get gold once the ratio lowers, gold is the end goal for me and silver is just a way to leverage the ratio in my favor to get gold for cheaper

probably no, dunno how's the situation in the US but getting spot in yuropoorfagia is nigh impossible. I'd try to sell to someone willing to pay an undercut market price, ebay or whatever

See that's what I don't understand, yes I'm stacking PMs and all, and I do see it as a hedge against inflation but that hedge is so that when I do liquidate the metals it will be for an important purchase, it's not like I'm gonna liquidate and then hold onto the fiat forever, the only thing I'd want to hold until I die is probably a small chunk of silver and most of my gold once I get to that point but everything else will be used eventually

My LCS had generic ounce rounds and bars for $21, and ASEs for $23 when I was there yesterday. Before the 'spot' paper price passed $18, he had generic ounces for $20.

I'd been looking online, and finding generic ounces for $20 and change, so the LCS had a much better deal. Lower price than online (by maybe 30¢ or so, but still), and having metal in-hand that day BTFOs online for generic. Sure, he bought that ounce at the paper price, and is selling it for the going physical 'retail' rate, but he's got overhead to cover and a living to make.

Anyway, you can generally get a decent price if you need to let some of it go.

One of the things US stackers miss out on, is that your daily spot price checking does not also remind you how far your currency is falling.

IE so far today, silver is up .25% in USD but up .66% in CAD

I was able to snag *at the lowest point* of that line in march, and it was still 24.84 cad an oz for generics. right now cheapest generics are 29.56/oz

I seriously envy you guys for being the reserve currency right now because it gives you much better stacking opportunities.

It's perhaps likely that the USD will fall relative to the Euro and other major currencies. However, it's highly unlikely that it will plummet to the extent that you're worried about. For those who do it, there is a very real danger of putting all of one's money into assets such as stocks, real estate, and precious metals; all of which are, in a sense, synthetic short positions on the USD.

If the USD were start going to pot, the Federal Reserve, if it wanted, could very quickly strengthen the USD through various open market operations to reduce the amount of money circulating through the economy. Note that there is one scenario that the Fed cannot arrest and that is a global repudiation of the USD and Treasury debt. That would be a tidal wave that would utterly destroy the USD but it's a highly unlikely scenario. As of yet, Europe, Australia, Japan, and quite few other large economies have not given any indications that they will ditch the USD. It would be global economic mayhem if something like that were to happen and the powers that be in the western nations do not want that. If the USD is to be decommissioned as the currency of account for international trade settlements, it will be an orderly dismantling of the current system.

So in your case, I personally think you're doing fine. You have about $10,000 in silver and $36,000 in cash, putting you at about a 4:1 cash/PMs ratio. The PMs will protect the purchasing power of your cash. I think that you could put yourself into a 1:1 cash/PMs ratio. PM prices are currently high but you should consider adding a bit of gold to the mix because it'll be less volatile than silver and, if the USD eats it, I suspect gold will move sharply upward before silver.

Manipulation can suppress PMs, but only to a point. 2011 was an inflection point where the Fed essentially succeeded in convincing the market they had things under control, and halted the downward move. People regained their faith in the ponzi.

They will have to continue raising the stakes each time, and it will have diminishing (and eventually, negative) returns as the market interprets their policy more and more pessimistically and eventually begins to fear that they are being conned.

So Powell could start buying etfs, do negative rates, yada yada, and probably goose assets some more, sure. But it's just more stacking opportunity, because at some point even normies are start to wonder about the fed's endgame when this shit requires qualitatively more drastic interventions each time.

If you mean increasing interest rates, then no way. Not without crashing the stock market. And Trump is not gonna let that happen. Either the USD is gonna crash and silver is gonna shoot up organically, or the government has a plan to roll out a new USD backed by silver. (can't compete with gold backed rubles and yuan). This makes sense when looking at the massive buying behavior of JPMorgan since 2008. Buying ~1 billion oz's on behalf of the US government so the gov can sidestep any FOIA request risks.

No, I'm talking about reducing the money supply. As for Trump not allowing it, we're talking about a currency crisis. I don't think even Trump would want a currency crisis to occur where a loaf of bread jumps to $20. Trump would most probably grudgingly allow the necessary monetary policies to prevent that kind of situation from happening. Trump is a narcissist and would not want to be remembered as the president under whom the USD went to total shit and did its best imitation of the Mexican peso.

reducing the money supply is accomplished by reducing the reserve requirement for banks. this directly increases the cost of credit aka interest rates which will crush the stock market. the only reason the stock market is surviving right now is our near 0 interest rates. Your point about Trump not wanting to cause a currency crisis is exactly why I think that, if he's actually not a total fucking retard, he'll already be ready to roll out a new silver-backed USD. In fact, this plan was already underway before he even entered office. Trump is simply accelerating it knowingly.

It's a nasty choice and the Federal Reserve has no one to blame but itself for the terrible position it's put itself in. We're talking about the end game, here, so I don't think it's something that we have to be really worried about for a few years years but I believe the Fed will be put into a situation where it can only save one of two things: the USD or its asset bubbles. If the USD goes down, the Fed's bullshit games are over and it's likely that someone else will get a turn at the wheel. Based upon what I've observed of the Fed and based upon their idiotic papers, I believe they'll choose to crash the asset bubbles so they can continue to play their games.

As for a specie backed currency, if that is what Trump is planning, he'd better cancel any trips to Dallas. There's no way in hell the Fed or the Deep State will willingly allow themselves to be restrained by the discipline of a redeemable, specie-backed currency. If there is a moral arc to this world, and if good ultimately triumphs over evil, then I hope to God that the Fed and Deep State can finally take the L. To be honest, I see this situation as them having finally run out of tricks. same with silver.

both trade on speculation. their real value without speculation is close to zero.

>> No.20182558

that isnt true... speculation surely contributes to their price, but they are traded commodities and the demand to buy/sell them is the main factor for their value outside of "paper gold" supplies manipulating the spot price.

>> No.20182640

total use demand is lower than lead, tin, steel, copper. You know this. Everyone here knows this. The illusion is that supply is much smaller also. This is objectively true in total but not actually true in production. Mining base metals is easily capable of producing far more gold and silver than the world consumes industrially.

>> No.20182915

well you paid almost 40% premium. Hard to say if you'll ever get that back. On the plus side you only lost $210 on the transaction, and that's only if you decide to sell and prices are still as high then as they are now. Hell, you might get lucky and prices will go over $30 for several years so you can break even.

what the fuck... is that in USD? why did you pay so much? there are so many cheaper sites out there

>> No.20183030

It looks bad. You paid 50% over spot price. I don't know what kind of price APMEX buys their Mint Direct tubes for but I cannot imagine it being more than 10% over spot price. This only would have been a good deal if you paid in Canadian dollars.

Why didn't you buy ASEs that weren't in the APMEX Mint Direct tubes? The crazy thing about Mint Direct tubes is that even if there is a premium that you get for selling them, you lose that premium if you open the tube. It's almost like the proverbial tins of sardines that get traded in prisons.

As >>20182915 said, though, it's not a lot of money. You maybe overpaid by about $100 or so over non Mint Direct ASEs.

>> No.20183060

it's no big deal. Even if you lose money on the exchange it's better than wasting all of it on hookers and blow, right?

you came out ahead of where you'd be if you didn't buy anything. That's sort of the idea of DCA. It's ok to lose money on an investment if the alternative is not investing and losing it all.

But shit i probably shouldnt have seeing as the premium is ass rape high.

>> No.20183188

the mining companies, mint and dealers need to make a profit, too. keep in mind they also have to pay for shipping and handling. your bullion doesn't just magically materialize on your front porch. all these retailers also have online support staff, QC checkers, people to count and put pieces into tubes, etc. spot is meaningless now and has disconnected from physical supply for a while now. you're actually getting an amazing deal once you factor in the *service* that they provided you.

I’ve heard 13-1000.

In reality if any of those numbers are true society would be so fucked that probably a large part of the USA would starve or break apart into multiple nations because a bull run on silver is all the bubbles popping and people flooding in to save their assets. Homes would be worthless, people wouldn’t have jobs due to every business (and everyone) being insolvent due to debt and banks collapsing.

Shits going to be crazy famalam.

>> No.20183484

In total, you only overpaid by about $100 so it's not the end of the world and you have a tube of ASEs that haven't been handled, which is what you want. My comment about not being able to open the tubes without losing the Mint Direct premium, though, is that you can't really even directly look at the coins you have. It might have been better to buy one 2020 ASE (such a new coin would probably be at least MS67 condition) or maybe a sealed, graded one and spent the remainder on the least expensive ASEs APMEX sells.

Weird thing is, I'm looking at the web site right now and you could have bought a tube of Mint Direct ASEs for $538.80 if you didn't care about the dates. There's nothing special about the 2020 date, IMO.

Oh well. If silver skyrockets in price, you'll just make less profit. It's not as if silver bullion is Beanie Babies.

I am under the impression that only the proof strikes have any numismatic value. 2020 is slightly different due to the bullion coins struck at the Philadelphia mint but those already have a very high premium. Even if 2020 proves to be a low mintage year, there are still going to be tons of 2020 West Point bullion ASEs. I'd be very surprised if there is a numismatic premium for those.

>I am under the impression that only the proof strikes have any numismatic value
that's true of any current mintage. That changes over time depending on overall supply

there are lots of coins where proofs are actually worth less than regular strikes because the mint run was small. It all depends on total numbers.
