Thanks for reminding me that Physics is a completely unemployable degree for the sub 180 IQ. I actually have no regrets working for Mcdonalds or Dominoes to be honest. It may be a shitty job, but at least its good honest work. They're even treated better than lab rat slaves in research institutions.

I'd tell you to get a job in the restaurant industry but it is also soul crushing work. At least you can get paid well if you don't care about career advancement and working unitl 3am in some cases (not all).
When I say restaurant I'm not talking about Applebees. If the average server / bartender doesn't ring $1500+ on a consistent basis it's not worth your time.

I did condensed matter physics. Its not that hard desu. All the big brains do particle physics and cosmology where they deal with tensors and topology shit on a daily basis. The amount of math required for these areas is an understatement and could easily take a lifetime to acquire if you're not > 180 IQ

Isn't logical thinking a big part of physics? There's a pretty high level of math. I can understand the spatial part but aren't math and spatial correlated?
I know there's a hedge fund billionaire who doesn't hire finance guys and he hires physics guys, etc if they can figure out the stuff needed.
There's also things you can do for yourself. Everything in business is just part math equation, part project management. If you can at least get one of the two down pact you can partner with someone or just find things that require less to no project management. That could be something like flipping contracts in real estate or day trading (which is obviously highly risky).
Point is, if you're really that smart and no one will give you a job (that's worth it) just figure out how to make your own job.
Use the internet for something other than porn and start searching for ways to do this.

OP is completely correct. I just graduated with a bachelor’s in physics and I regret it. I really didn’t realize how worthless it is to get a physics PhD in 2020. Academic science is in the shitter and has been for some time since the 1980s. It’s really not worth losing your 20s for a PhD. It’s fun to flex on people that you’re studying physics, and probably even more fun when you’re doing a PhD, but it’s not worth it to lose your 20s over when this is the one period in your life you are going to have this much energy before you go down the shitter once you hit 30.

Wish you luck OP. I’m working out an exit plan, but feel lucky to not fall for the PhD meme.

Lads how are the normal job opportunities (i.e. without Corona going around) for a chemistry/biochemistry or biology PhD? I've read that for biology, it's priddy hard to find something related afterwards

Not necessarily, there's a lot of banking firms obviously and security based firms. You can abuse their high pay by avoiding taxes and living on the border of other countries in lcol areas like Baden-Württemberg and get creative.

A lot of people talk about how smart or sociable they are to get the last few good jobs left, but also there's not even job security in those anymore. You could be upper management parasite finance at Big 4 or whatever and you'd still get fired for wearing the wrong matching tie with your suit. Why not, it's not like they don't have a line leading out the door 8 miles long.

clever
it should have been long obvious (even to OP) tho, McEmployers don't hire PhDs for entry postions. The assumption being, you'll get bored after 10 minutes and fuck off again, or start sabotaging the machines or some shit to liven up your dreary existence

I get the lcol part but how do you avoid taxes? You'd be paying more taxes if you're a resident in Germany.

She didn't directly say it... she spoke for hours about how 'competitive' the job market was, how many of us would have to work as post-docs for decades before securing a real job, and how private sector jobs were like rocking horse shit. My PhD was in biochemistry. I quit with a masters.

>>20094423

She unintentionally saved my time yeah. I even got paid to do my PhD but it wasn't worth it. Total meme, and most academics are based retards in everything except for their chosen study area, it's not at all surprising that they can't get by if they can't get a job in their 'niche'. Most are complete autists. I came from a working class background and worked hard to get to post-grad thinking it would elevate me on some social status level (literally from one of the poorest areas in UK even tho family aren't destitute) but it was all bullshit.

I'm a recently graduated ChemE and I notice a lot of relevant job postings for people with PhDs in Physics, Chemistry, etc on these sites. I bet they pay better than McDonald's and you will get DoE/DoD clearance which will increase your employability even further

Life is a giant popularity contest. No one actually cares about how qualified you are if you're an unlikeable aspergers retard. People like to think capitalism is all about individualism but its more about nepotism. Make some connections, find a place you would like to work and make a friend there.

Atleast get a job at costco or be a mailman or something.
