It’s cool that we’re getting well recognized players to give chain link the validation it needs/deserves
But btc/eth, btc/usdt, eth/usdt, link/eth
Don’t we already have these?
Someone explain to me, what’s the significance of this?
Is it just more security so users of potentially large scale projects can feel more comfortable?
Like if I’m building a defi app with an Asian base maybe I’d want to source my data more largely from huobi?

Why does it say that it's making its data available through the Chainlink network AND running a node. Aren't they the same? How can you make the data available in the network if it's not through a node?

what is an api
jesus

>> No.20088396

>>20088378
Yeah precisely. So they have an api, that is not specific to the Chainlink network. The tweet is misleading, huobi setting up an api isn't entirely related to Chainlink. Huobi running a node is, though.

>> No.20088402

>>20088350
>making its data available through the Chainlink network
Opening up their API's for other nodes to fetch data (like what binance and coin base did)
>running a node
durectly participating in the CL network.

Their node will (presumably) fetch data from their API, but theoratically they wouldn't have to.
Their node could fetch the data from another API (binance, coingecko, coin base, etc... which won't happen)
and other nodes can fetch data from their API (which will probably happen)

>> No.20088445

What I was wondering was is there something specific to link in their api or not? Cause bandaid protocol or whatever could say huobi made their data available for their doracle or what not too

>> No.20088480

>>20088445
To add to this. Would be great if Chainlink had some api requirements in place to make apis "Chainlink compliant". You would see data providers adopting the framework and making the access to data easier for the nodes

You can help create an adapter, open up the API, help with general data integration, ...

In any case, Huobi is doing both: making its data available to CL, and running a CL node on mainnet.

That's not how it works, neither is it necessary (and CL would fundamentally flawed if this were the case). The Provider either opens up their API's or they don't (though the could open it up to distinct individuals by requiring a special key or whatever)
>Cause bandaid protocol or whatever could say huobi made their data available for their doracle or what not too
Yes, they could if the API is open to everyone/to them.
Huobi running their own node is the newsworthy bit.

As mentioned that's a design flaw. Imagine being a startup and trying to convince multi billion dollar companies they have to adapt to your API-standards.

>Cause bandaid protocol or whatever could say huobi made their data available for their doracle or what not too
Even if an API is already open to anyone, it actually means something if the owner of that API specifically singles out Chainlink.

But again, Huobi is also running a Chainlink node.

Ok makes sense yes. It's just that it made me wonder if the coin base signed api thing could have been related to Chainlink requirement. But I might be reaching here.

Anyway, always seen Chainlink interesting from an node operator point of view but never paid attention to the data provider one. They'll surely want a piece of the cake when they'll see the profits node ops are making with their data, how will the money be redistributed? Will they just make their api pay to use as it is currently done now, with fiat and using the traditional financial system, or did Link put something in place for this? Would be cool if data providers incentives were settled using link too.

Coinbase signed API is definitely a major boon for Chainlink, as explained by Coinbase themselves (mentioning Chainlink by name), see pic.

Think of it this way: motorized cars caused roads to be massively improved as well. The nature of cars called for longer, straighter, better-paved, ... roads.
In the same way, Chainlink will cause APIs to be hugely improved: more decentralized, signed, better uptime guarantees, ...

Guy is a moron
I’m beginning to understand that the large majority of “devs” involved in the crypto space have no concept of why building a robust system is important

For example
Let’s say I have an insurance app that pays out in ether and sources the price from Coinbase’s oracle

5 years from now, when the insurance actually pays out, coinbase could literally not even exist
Or it could experience a drop to 0 like link, or eth did back in 2017(ish)
What do you do about the contracts that are sourcing price data from you during the time this happens?
These elementary thinking faggots are a giant disgrace
