IBRK pretends to be the broker for richer people. Looking at the law suits coming for their big oil whoopsie they should not be considered one though.

Also most richer people use a bank-broker. Simply because they like someone to talk to when problems arise. Like BNP or Deutsche Bank. They dont care about a fee of 50$ when they buy 300 shares of TSLA.

Wealthy non-boomer people use the normal brokers I guess.

I hate drunk people. Its the most disgusting thing a man can do to himself. How weak do you have to be to become addicted to something like alcohol? To drown your problems instead of facing them?
Like hoping the problems of a man go away by turning yourself into a sad and disgusting mess.

And some people have the audacity to call it a disease. I know people who died from cancer or suffered from alzheimers. These are diseases. You cant just stop a brain tumor by not being drinking from the cancer bottle.
The same people that try to lable obesity a disease and try to make it look like people just caught a burger like someone caught the flu.
We need concentration camps for all of these subhumans

Good night

>do you have a poor inner life yourself - yet you're too prideful to drink it away?
No. If I had a shit time I would seek help. Professional if so needed. No shame in having a problem, no shame in trying to seek relief. But drinking is the worst solution for the weakest of people who are too ashamed to admit having a problem they are not able to fix on their own.
>not everyone can climb out of shit, and in those instances, maybe the bottle is better than suicide.
And hitting yourself once is better than hitting yourself twice.
Hitting yourself wont fix anything though. Talking to a therapist or doctor will help. All alcoholics I knew were incredibly prideful people who were too high on their horses to admit that they have a problem. Usually men.

The poor fuck I once lived next to on the other hand went to a clinic, got rehab and is now good and well. Nobody thought badly of him. But everyone else is too self conscious to admit to being an alcoholic or unwilling to accept any help offered to them.
>what do I know - probably nothing
I also have no idea. I just know alcohol is never a solution. For nobody. Any adult can and should seek treatment if they have that addiction.

>Fuck alcoholics unwilling to change. Praise be to people who seek treatment for their problems and admit that they face difficulties in their lives.

Beezy and Muskmane makin' niggaz rich again. Sold shortly after this screenshot and immediately pulled out as my RH account got its second 90 day total transaction ban because I went ham on DTs yesterday. Yet another $2300 base account flipped into $14k in two weeks. 120% of the gains were the last three days on AMZN TSLA WKHS and SPY calls.

Still a little bummed I turned the TSLA 1050 from Monday into a gay ass spread which severely limited Tuesday's gains. Then I sold my AMZN 2790 way too early, and then the 2840 waay too early, then the 2 2900s and 3 3000s waaaay too early, but I don't like to keep all my eggs in one 24 hour expiry basket overnight. Too many nightmares of going from 6k to 2k.

Loaded up the ol' TDA margin & futs account #2 with my usual $2500 base now that the 90 day PDT ban has been lifted. Nothing I want to long right now, market feels overbought and needs a rest. Likely crab with some nasty red days until Congress gets the gib machine rolling again. Might be time to sell premium and low ball bid for some post ER stock deals later this month. No fuckin' way I'm selling calls though, just gonna cash covered put my way to gains...TSLA still probably good for a run to the next big daddy fib at $1270, but only after a hefty retrace to the 1030 zone. AMZN will tag 3000-3080 before EOM before pulling back.

TSLA 1500+ and AMZN 3200-3600 by EOY, crash or not, doesn't matter. Fibs dont lie.

guys i'm pretty proud of my bro.
was part of a legal research team advising the DoD on their response to climate change and this was the first paragraph

>Legal Adaptations to Climate Change 5/3/19

>I. Summary
>This paper argues that public opinion is more likely to affect Department of Defense (DoD) strategy than climate change effects. DoD describes climate change as a conflict accelerant, but the rate of acceleration is unclear, most conflicts are affordable, and climate change effects are likely to reinforce current strategy. DoD foreign humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) spending is likely to increase due to climate change but will remain affordable and strategic even at much higher levels. Public opinion, on the other hand, is already critical of foreign aid spending and is unlikely to support an increase in DoD HA/DR spending. The President’s National Security Strategy, which directs DoD strategy, reflects public opinion. Public disapproval of increasing DoD HA/DR spending could therefore manifest through executive branch change to affect DoD strategy.

I straight up CANNOT understand the concept of selling calls and puts. I'm an absolute brainlet and I cannot go from point A to point C. Buying calls/puts and "closing" them makes total sense, and that's all I do for now.

Can someone dumb down this concept for me? When I sell a call I a) immediately make $, the cost of the premium, b) give someone the ability to buy 100 shares at X price before Y date. The risk associated with selling options is the confusing part...if someone exercises the option (who even does this) then I'm somehow on the hook?

If they exercise a put then you are forced to buy 100 shares from them at the strike. It’s all automated.

>I literally don't know what to do anymore
Hello fren. SOXL is the answer. Face it. Semiconductors are crack in all but name. The desire for newer, faster, more is insatiable. Computers, GPUs, self-driving electric cars, AI enhanced smartphones, medical devices, microcontrollers, networking gear, machine learning, surveillance, infrastructure, military, the list goes on. No matter how many cores, how fast or efficient, demand requires bigger, faster, cheaper, better. The clamor for fresh silicon gives nary shit for national identity, creed, hue, gender or other vain conceit. The multitude speaks in singular. The plea: semiconductor.
SOXL couples a single ETF entry point with the the best companies the space has to offer then pushes these already stellar returns to the limit with 3x leverage. With SOXL your economic interests are aligned with hardware powerhouses TSM, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Intel, Broadcom, AMD, Micron, Texas Instruments, Applied Materials, et al. Real tech companies with innovative products people want, not """tech""" """companies""" pushing shitty ads. And like all leveraged ETFs, SOXL is rebalanced daily, accelerating gains in an upmarket while deftly mitigating margin risks in a down.
In the last 7 years, barring the coronavirus interruption, SOXL has exploded over 55x yet still we are early. Semiconductor growth will proceed exponentially until every viable space is saturated with it. This is a fait accompli; the sheer number of interested parties and compelling outcomes make it so. The injection of increasingly compact and efficient sensors, microcontrollers, information processing and storage into everywhere and everything will be this era's seminal revolution, a revolution with SOXL holders planted firmly at the receiving end.
Stop waiting for more "pullback". The crash was a gift and fretting over the exact bottom is meaningless. Waiting is a failure mode. Now. Buy it now

Disclaimer: I/We are long SOXL and several other leveraged ETFs

At the same time if it drops I can bring the average down hard via dropping in lots of cash at a low price. Need to decide price point I'd buy at, probably like every $10 down buy up to 10 shares. They're a long term hold for me so the worry is more so if it crashes anytime soon I got btfo'd and should've waited or if it crashes hard enough and the etf is removed for crashing by more than a certain amount.

I'm so fuckin close to understanding writing puts but god dammit i'm a brainlet.

Finish this for me:

1) I'm neutral / bullish on a stock so I write a put for $75 strike. I make a premium of $10 * 100 shares = $100. Lets say XYZ is trading ITM at $75 and I think it will stay about there or budge up to $85 or so using my TA wizardry.

2) Scenario 1: My TA was right, XYZ is trading at $80. The fucker that bought the put wouldn't want to exercise the option, he wouldn't want to SELL XYZ at 75, since it's worth 80. The option expires, I make my premium of $100 and go home

3) Scenario 2: My TA was wrong, the CEO was assassinated and XYZ is trading at $50. Of course the guy that bought my put wants to exercise it - he wants to sell 100 shares at 75. 75 is a larger number than 50 - cmon brainlet you got this. Here is where I'm stumped. Since he wants to exericse the put, I'm on the hook..and my loss = Strike price - price of underlying + the premium I made ----> loss = (75 * 1000) - (50 * 1000) + $100 = 7,500 - 5,000 + 100 = negative (-) $2,600. I somehow "owe" $2600. I simply cannot for the life of me understand this. Fundamentally, the dude that bought my put WANTS TO SELL 100 SHARES FOR THE 75 STRIKE, I absolutely get that...but I just can't wrap my head around how the money exchange works at this point. How do I go from fulfilling the obligation to buy 100 shares at $75 (which yes I understand I'm obligated to do if he wants to exercise the option) to making net -$2,600. Where did the $5,000 come from? Am I giving him 100 shares that I paid the $75/piece for and somehow getting $5,000 back? guys I have a college degree I swear, what in the fuck

You lost $2600 in this scenario because you are being forced to spend $7500 buying the underlying. Had you not sold the put and we’re buying 100 shares at that moment in time it would only cost you $5000. So the “loss” is the difference between what you could have spent for 100 shares and what you’re actually being forced to pay for 100 shares.

When you sell a put you aren't giving shares. You use money as collateral. When you sell a put you need to put up the strike price x100. If the current price is $50 and the strike is $75, you are going to buy shares for $25 more than they are worth.

I'm almost there anon, I can feel it. the current is starting to go thru the lightbulb that is my brain.

> you are being forced to spend $7500 buying the underlying

Ok so I cough up $7500 to buy the 100 shares at strike price...I made $100 initially from the premium. Now I've lost $7400. And yet how is it the case I'd only lose $2,600 in this example? Obviously it related to the $5000, but I don't know where the $5,000 comes from and how I "obtain" it.

Sell put = promising to buy stock at X price
Buy put = buying the right to sell stock at X price

You write $75 strike put.

$75.01+ = you keep all premium and you don't have to buy the shares
$75 or lower = you keep all premium but you also have to buy the shares at $75, so if the stock is trading at $50 you "lose" $25 per share if you sell right away.

This means of course, writing puts should be either a way to scalp premium for stocks you don't mind being told to buy or a way to lower the average cost of a stock if you think it might go lower but you're not 100% sure it will go lower. Or using it as part of a multi-option strategy.

Personally, after market research and good news, I firmly believe WKHS value is at least $10 so I wrote a bunch of 7/17 $10p for a 23% premium a few days ago when it was trading below $18.

I looked into TSM, but how do people stand the risk that it's so helpless against the geopolitics between US and China? The fact that the US can just decide its US plants can't sell to a customer that was ~15% of its revenue? I mean the company was able to make up that revenue elsewhere eventually, but that's so shitty no matter how great their fabs are

i still wanna buy in but im a bit scared, also it's very close to overbought territory right now

For your $7,500 you got 100 shares worth $50 buck each that you can now sell to get the missing $5,000.

Retard
You sold a put at $75
This is $7500 held in cash collateral by the broker.
The stock price is now $50
You dont owe anybody anything.
Your $7500 of collateral simply fell to $5000 in equity once everything is settled.
You also collected $100 in premium to spend on tendies bringing your total loss to $2400.
Enjoy holding someone's bags but $100 is at least a weeks worth of chicken nuggets.

Also in your formula you increase your loss by the premium, you should subtract the premium from your loss. So your loss is $2,400 not $2,600.
You pay $7,500, but then you keep your premium so you’re only out $7,400 and then you sell the 100 shares for $5,000 so in the end your loss is $2,400)
