First off, sorry if this has been discussed already.
Somebody either made the fat finger of a lifetime, or something more nefarious is at play here.
Anybody have any ideas what the motivation would be in executing such a transaction?

money laundering was discussed as a potential explanation but I seriously don't buy it, ETH has 15 second block times and you'd need to mine that block before anyone else to try to launder it through the mining pool. If someone else mines the block instead you're fucked. You can't really mine blocks ahead of time on Ethereum. I think it was a fatfingered transaction with shitty wallet software.

Imagine mining that block...

If you sign the transaction and give it only to the pool to put in their block you can guarantee that they will be the ones to mine it.

kinda bait, isn't it? this transaction managed to get global attention. money launderers probably would do small transactions to go undetected. the person probably wasn't thinking clearly and was kind of throwing it away
