I dont think that right now is a great time to get in for a swing trader. You'll want to wait for this level to flatten out, unless you're very long term on PLUG.

If you're worried about a crash, just be sure to set a stop loss order on Thursday when the earnings come out. But if they beat expectations, expect this stock to go to the moon

I'm not saying that being speculative is bad at all. I have a large position in PLUG that is working out very well for me right now. But this kind of strategy isn't for most investors. Most people who invest in penny stocks, especially someone who gets financial advice from one of G-d's chosen ones like Timothy Sykes, will lose their shirt.

And I feel much better investing in fuel cell technology or solar power, instead of massively speculative penny stocks. You're up against as big of a house advantage as you are in the casino. The OTCBB pump and dump groups will break any investor putting serious capital into these penny stocks.

Putting money into GTAT, PLUG, and CIMT have worked out much better for me than some stock with some epic may-may $420CBISPHOTMJNAMDBXCANV ticker symbol. I feel better putting my money into companies that have actual products, instead of just scam front companies for criminals.

>Stock caution urged as margin debt levels hit new highs

>The gains haven’t come without a share of fretting that the good times can’t last. Among the warnings signs: The indexes’ string of record highs; high levels of margin debt, or borrowings to finance stock buys; the slim number of prior bull markets that have lasted past this point; and valuations that are close to levels when stocks last peaked.

>But keep in mind that the forward P/E ratio is still well below the 15-year average of 16.0. Fifteen years takes you back to the most bubbleicious part of the tech boom. During the first two-years of the time frame — 1999 to 2001 — the forward 12-month P/E ratio stood consistently above 20 and peaked near 25, FactSet recalls. So with the ratio below the 15-year average and nowhere near its peak, one could also argue that the index might still be undervalued, FactSet says.

>The ratio would be even higher if analysts weren’t projecting record earnings levels over the next four quarters, they said, in a note:

I'm skeptical about a lot of the low priced shit spread around here and in other places but I find all it takes is a bit of time to research on wtf you're actually buying. The P/E levels for the housing bubble look benign in that graph yet we still had a "correction" that was deeper than the tech bubble.

I don't think there's a bubble large enough in the US economy right now.

The shock will probably come from some market collapsing in the Far East due to the drying up of credit and the record high margin levels will mean a pullback just like in the early 1990s with the Asian Crisis.

If you're concerned about these kinds of fluctuations, and you're not a day trader scalping it, you don't need to be trading.

Its at 10.31, and is up 25%. Sure it reached 11.41, and it might even test that number again. But its healthy for a stock to reverse, and it provides a new opportunity to get back in.

I'd be concerned if you saw a 10% or greater drop at 9:30 on the day of earning though

I've got a question about Pattern Day Trading.

So I just got a notice that my 3rd trade has been used within 5 business days on my recent PLUG gains. One more trade and I will receive a 90 day restriction. I need $25,000 in my account to not be flagged.

Does this $25,000 also account for the margin money your broker gives you? And how is the margin amount calculated? Is it x2 the amount of your securities/portfolio?

If that is the case, then wouldn't you only need $12,500 of your own money before being 'upgraded' to a margin account to achieve the $25,000 base for day trading?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I think that its been said, but you cannot used borrowed money from your broker to reach the $25,000 in equity needed. The equity can be cash or positions bought with your own cash. Say you buy into a couple of stocks with $10,000. A year later those stocks are worth roughly $20,000. You couldn't use $5,000 of margin to get the $25k needed. You would need to deposit $5,000 to get the equity needed.

You also need a margin account to be classified as a day trader. The margin requirements are different, as you get 4:1 margin to equity. So with $25,000 in your account, you have $100,000 in buying power.

Never use that much margin. You don't want to get a margin call and get fucked
