Any other Canadians in here? What do you use for crypto? Coinbase has too big fees and pro is only USD.

>> No.19917159

I use coinsquare. 1.5% fees on deposits. I can give you a referral link if you want.

>> No.19917170

>>19917159
coinsquare is awful

use shakepay

>> No.19917183

How are you canadian anons avoiding taxes? What if you make it big with Link?

shakepay is the best one I have used. It's fast and fees are way lower than cuckbase.

the damned site doesnt want to give me a referral code for whatever reason. anyway, i use coinsquare, maybe there are better platforms like >>19917170 pointed out

>avoiding taxes
bad idea imo. the CRA will asshammer you if they have any inkling you are avoiding taxes. dont trade too often so they wont consider your crypto to be "business income" and you will only be subject to capital gains tax on 50% of your stack (i.e. if you are in the 40% income tax bracket, you'd only functionally pay 20% on long term capital gains)

>> No.19917380

>>19917292
who even buys alts on on-ramps? You'll eventually have to transfer to an exchange anyway if you want to buy anything outside top 25 coins.

How to declare taxes if I didn't keep track of all my shitcoin trades? Exchanges like QuadrigaCX are literally gone, among others that have been hacked like cryptopia. There's no way I can make sense out of my trades, then again I never cashed out a single cent

Only use canadian exchanges to cash in and out. Shakepay is the fastest. I would highly recommend shakepay. E transfer to shakepay, buy eth, send to metamask, buy anything on uniswap.

Honestly I'm betting on a change of law in the future, c2c makes 0 sense.
Imagine a future where crypto is mainstream and people were asked to keep track of all the crypto trades they were doing daily, would be a nightmare.
Example:
Earn BAT watching ads, use BAT to pay for a movie. You can't pay with BAT so it does a swap to ETH or USDC behind the scenes (and you may not even know this depending on the UI). Many more examples like that if crypto becomes mainstream, becomes even more funny if you think of games where teenagers would earn crypto that they can exchange for other game tokens for example, good luck taxing these teenagers

You just declare your capital gains best as you can. I used cryptotax.io to do my crypto taxes this year. If the CRA asks me to submit my trade history I have a lovely 40 page PDF document with size 8 font that outlines all my trades since 2017, or most of them Anyway. Quadriga, etherdelta, coinsmarkets, and cryptopia all went defunct on me and thus my trade history for them is gone.

If you get all your trades together and the sum of the years you didnt declare were a net loss, no. You can also always pay taxes on a zero cost basis, I.e. you treat your capital gains as if you bought for 0$. As long as you make an honest effort to pay your taxes they wont hammer you. You also have three years on which you can go back to make amends. So this year you could have amended your taxes from the 2016 fiscal year.
