Sup Monero senpai, feeling comfy?
This daily general is for supporters of the cypherpunk ideology to hang out and help noobies learn about Monero, the most fungible cryptocurrency. We believe that Monero is the logical continuation of Bitcoin because it offers superior privacy, leading the way to many potential use cases. Discussion points include rising Dark Net adoption, news articles about Monero, daily transaction totals, and new technology updates to the Monero project.
Moonboy posting is discouraged, however price speculation and TA is fine.

there's a link in the OP.
alternatively, you can use the service xmr.to if you want to send monero to a vendor but they only accept Bitcoin. xmr.to auto swaps the Monero for Bitcoin.

"I think that the only effective defense against the coming surveillance dystopia is one where you take steps yourself to safeguard your privacy, because there's no incentive for self-restraint by the people that have the capacity to intercept everything. A historical analogy could be how people learned that they should wash their hands. That required the germ theory of disease to be established and then popularized, and for paranoia to be instilled about the spread of disease via invisible stuff on your hands that you can't see, just as you can't see mass interception. Once there was enough understanding, soap manufacturers produced products that people consumed to relieve their fear. It's necessary to instill fear in people so they understand the problem before they will create enough demand to solve the problem." -
"Creating an electronic currency is a big deal precisely because control over the medium of exchange is one of the three ingredients of a state." "If you take away the state's monopoly over the means of economic interaction, then you take away one of the three principal ingredients of a state. In the model of the state as a mafia, where the state is a protection racket, the state shakes people down for money in every possible way. Controlling currency flows is important for revenue-raising by the state, but it is also important for simply controlling what people do- incentivizing one thing, disincentivizing another thing, completely banning a certain activity, or an organization, or interactions between organizations." "Government regulation has made particular financial players kings and doesn't allow other market entrants. Economic freedom has been impinged by an elite group that is able to influence both regulation and the principles involved in these banks."

comfy thread. was looking for it earlier.

I think what's going on currently in the US is further proof to be bullish for XMR. Deeming certain business and people as racist/xyz-phoic/etc. They absolutely would love to track who's donating to what and who's buying from who. XMR is perfect for preventing this and being able to send to whoever you want.

>also XMR is perfect for tax evasion in your minecraft server

If you had a minecraft sever where you were able to purchase gold w/ XMR and then sold the gold in a server that upholds that gold is legal currency there would be no questioning.

It depends on if you're going to be constantly making XMR or more of a one off deposit.

I know you guys are kind of snobbish when it comes to price action. But is it reasonable to assume this is more or less the bottom for Monero? planning to Hold a considerable amount for a few years at least and then cash out by buying gold bars ( which isn't taxed in my country , cashing out crypto if you made gains and convert to fiat is taxable like 33% )

>> No.19846212

>>19846046
Nobody can say for sure with crypto. So far Monero is still roughly coupled with BTC, so if the bottom drops on the ~9500 fiat price, Monero's is likely to follow.

I think it's a reasonably safe guess to say that 1) Monero will be worth more in the future than it is now, and 2) as the crypto market matures XMR will be one of many coins whose value decouples from BTC.

I dislike governments and especially when they track all your financial transactions. I am already paying taxes. leave me the fuck alone. Also i feel like alot of taxing mechanisms are inherently unfair. I love the privacy and anonimity of xmr.I also like the idea that i can use xmr to buy gold and then later convert the gold to fiat if needed. I could use this money for everyday expenses and taxman wouldn't notice : )

Many options
Open account on localmonero.co and do cash by mail
Or cash in person
Or use xmr to pay for the next thing
Or transfer to kraken and take out 80k a year with zero cap gains obligation assuming no income straight to a bank account- if they ask where you got it you can say mining and there is no way to prove otherwise

BTC maximalists think that they can eventually program privacy into their blockchain, but it's simply too big of an overhaul. The wallets that are popping up, trying to address the problem, are crumbling before chain analysis and being flagged when they aren't.
